Cate was almost dozing off against her tree when she spotted the hint of movement through the trees. Sitting up a little straighter, she smirked and took aim at her fellow medic.

Gray was managing not to doze off...something about having a bit of dip to use on the occasion of a rather sleepy round of guard duty did help, after all. Detecting a hint of movement through the trees, he carefully takes aim at said movement...not wanting to give away his position before he absolutely has to.

It's a good thing Gage doesn't have a spare cigarette to hand, because let's face it, he probably would've lit up by now. He's leaning easily into his cover, one hand on his weapon, scanning the foliage to the right of the playground, keeping a keen eye out for any movement. A flash of movement draws his attention and he sights down the gun for a single shot at Donny.

Donny figured he was the sneakiest of the bunch. He didn't have much reason to think otherwise- he thought he was pretty awesome! So he decided to break off from the rest of the group and flank around from the side to catch the enemy in a crossfire. A pretty good plan in his eyes, and he was doing good too. Kneeling down between the meeting of two bushes, he shouldered his rifle and took aim at Gray, sucking in a sharp breath through his teeth. Hey, at least he -thinks- he's hidden.

Approaching the Blue Team's 'base', Aleksander breaks off from the main squad in an attempt to flank the defenders. He couldn't help but light up a cigarette on the way towards the enemy base, probably not the best of tactics. The marine himself doesn't draw attention except for the slight plume of cigarette smoke that drifts up into the air when he exhales after taking a drag. Once the defenders are spotted though, the Tauron goes to one knee to help stabilize himself, rifle stock pressed against his shoulders as he takes aim at one of the Blues.

<FS3> Cate rolls Alertness (8 6 6 5 4 1 1 1) vs Aleksander's Stealth (8 8 8 8 7 7 6 5 4 1)
<FS3> Crushing Victory for Aleksander.

Donny lets his brows skyrocket as he realizes he's just been shot at. What tipped him off? When he saw the guy -he- was aiming at -and- someone else were aiming at him. "Frak." he curses to himself under his breath as he turns on his heels and makes for back of the trunk of a tree. When he arrives, he pokes out, leveling his aim to try and take another shot off at Gray.

Gray notices the flashes of the guns, and more to the point he notices that apparently his idea of cover is not an ideal one. A quiet muttered curse ensues as he is the recipient of fire from at /least/ one member of the other team, though it would seem that the hedge he's in is at least breaking up the incoming fire. .o0(Well, it doesn't help them to see you if they can't hit you...)0o. With that in mind, he trains a series of single shots at Donny. .o0(Just have to take you out first...)0o.

Cate trades shots with Beckham, which amuses her on some level - screw the rest of the game, really. She's totally oblivious to Aleksander creeping closer on the flank she's supposed to be defending. Blame the hangover.

Gage manages to keep an eye on the Donny's retreat to a tree, casting a glance over to the side to check on Gray's positioning -- and presumably, their flag -- before he lines up another shot on the recon.

Aleksander's shot on Gray is accurate but the shot only registered a light hit, nothing to knock the other Marine out of the game. Instead of just standing there and firing again, the Tauron feels like the best strategy is to keep moving so he continues with his flanking maneuver, spotting Cate guarding this side of their 'base'. Plan is already hatched and he will try to get behind her without being seen, perhaps to 'execute' her at point blank.

<FS3> Cate rolls Alertness (8 6 5 4 2 1 1 1) vs Aleksander's Stealth (7 6 5 4 4 4 2 2 2 1)
<FS3> DRAW!

Gage grunts in disappointment as his laser tags the tree Donny's hiding behind. His left hand briefly brushes against a pocket, but either there's no gum there, or he remembers this is supposed to be a game. He circles further to the right, finding a new spot of cover to try and get a better angle on the recon from.

A few more steps, pause, then a few more steps and then Aleksander feels confident enough since he is not on the back arc of Cate's field of vision. At the end, he closes on the last few yards and then presses the tip of his laser pistol against Cate's back where she will feel it poking her. "Boo!" He should've pressed the trigger but it seems more fun to say 'boo' instead.

Donny nibbles on his lower lip as he ensures his aim is on his intended target. When the sights line up with Gray, he depresses the trigger and the flash at the muzzle of his laser rifle lights up. To Donny's disappointment, the hit didn't register as a KO. "Heck!" he says as he shifts back and pulls himself behind cover to avoid getting shot himself. After a moment of waiting, he leans out to try and shoot at Gray yet again. He's -determined- to get this guy out now.

Reflexes are a bitch sometimes, especially when coupled with the poor judgement born of a splitting headache and mild dehydration. That's probably why Cate jumps at the 'Boo' behind her and twists with her rifle butt sweeping like a club.

<FS3> Cate rolls Melee (5 4 4 3 2 1) vs Aleksander's Melee (7 7 5 5 4 3 2 1)
<FS3> Victory for Aleksander.

It seems like a good idea at first, well, not exactly 'good' but amusing. However, when Cate's training kicks in, Aleksander realizes that the rifle stock is coming up at his head and he quickly ducks, "Ah!" He exclaims, probably ruining any sort of stealth chance he had left with the rest of the Blue team. The duck was just in time as the laser rifle swooshes over the Tauron's head. "Don't brain me!"

Cate checks her twist like a baseball batter checking their swing once she registers Aleksander's exclamation - though really she probably wasn't close to hitting him regardless. "Sorry," she says. Then realizes... hey, she's not knocked out yet. She swings the rifle around the proper way.

<FS3> Donny rolls Athletics: Success (6 5 5 4 3)

Donny has an idea. It's not exactly a good idea, but it's an idea all the same. Donny digs his heels into the dirt and grunts as he turns he rounds the trunk of his tree and rises somewhat. He maintains aim on Gray as he begins to fire upon while trying to cross back out of cover to regroup with his teams Caprican and Beckham.

It also dawns on Aleksander that he didn't pull the trigger on Cate when he had the chance and spots her bringing her weapon up to shoot him. Instead of bringing his own up being more out of position from ducking, he tries to close in on the Blue team's medic to relieve her of her weapon and take her down the old fashion way.

Gray and Donny keep exchanging potshots. It's basically a standoff, with Donny's (laser) shots killing the bushes while Gray is doing a wonderful job of killing some dirt. Gray begins to slowly low-crawl forwards, trying to close the distance between himself and Donny and get a slightly better angle to hit him from.

Gage continues circling around, making a grunting noise as his shot registers as hitting, but not sufficient to knock out his opponent. There's a stretch of open space, and he cuts across it, advancing quickly on Donny, firing as he goes -- no doubt hoping the recon will stay focused on Gray for the time being.

Much better! This time Gage gives a satisfied grunt as the hit registers, ducking back into cover as he leans around to see who of the other team is left. Hmm. A quick check shows Gray -- who can can see -- is still up -- but he can't see Cate and Aleksander from this angle. He raises his weapon as he spots movement.

Aleksander isn't quick enough as Cate is faster on the draw, but it appears that her shot is hurried because he doesn't get the signal that the simulated shot that hits him has knocked him out of the game. So the Tauron contineus and with his rifle held in both hands, strikes her weapon upwards, sending it flying from her grip.

Donny furrows his brows as he continues to make his way around to the left. He's quietly pulling back on his trigger to fire off a laser at Gray which connects at his opponents chest, but unfortunately doesn't do the trick. Donny's brows furrow, and he's about to turn to run off to join the others before he hears a blip rise from his chest as well as a light to indicate he's knocked out of the fight. Raising his arms up and overhead, as well as his gun, he lets out a sigh. "Oh well. Time to go find some shade." he says to himself contentedly as he now begins to pace off to the sidelines.

Cate curses as her shot doesn't trigger Aleksander's vest and then the other marine yanks her weapon away. "Frak." But two can play at that game, so she steps in closer, trying to get in where his barrel can't reach so she can flip him over her hip in a takedown they've all practiced a million times.

Gray takes note as Gage takes Donny out of commission, and quickly finds himself fishing around for a new target...at which point he notices that Aleksander and Cate are /way/ too close for confort. Signalling to Gage to make sure anyone else is distracted, he charges in firing at the member of opfor who's in close combat with Cate. Hey, if neither of them get knocked out quickly, there's going to be a /very/ unconventional threesome going on!

Aleksander apparently anticipates Cate's move since she is technically still in the game so he is already taking a step to the side, elusive enough to evade her attempt to flip him and fortunately also lucky enough to move just in time to dodge Gray's shot. Slipping around the combat medic, the Tauron tries to keep a strong grasp around her waist with his arm while bringing his weapon up to shoot at another member of the blue team, completely unconventional and incorrect combat methodology of course.

Perhaps a little too late, Gage spots Gray's signal and advance back towards the playground. Damn! He leaves off his current target, instead hoofing it back to where he spots Aleksander in close combat with Cate. He lifts his rifle, considers, and instead swings to another target. Even in playacting, he's not so keen on firing on the other Tauron -- that, or it's too difficult to get a clear shot with his proximity to Cate.

Cate gets tied up by Aleksander, but as soon as he's adjusting his grip to take aim at their other teammate, she tries again to shift her weight and hook his free arm in an armlock. Stubborn Hibernian is stubborn, and isn't playing human shield easily.

Red2 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Gage)

Gray is closing, he lets out a "Raaagh!", and then... Bloop. "Frak..." he grumbles, looking around and noticing the Caprican who managed to ping him from an un-covered angle. He flips the Caprican the bird, albeit with a wry smile attached, and makes his way out of the field.

Despite his 'hostage' struggling, Aleksander has a very strong hold that Cate can't escape from despite struggling valiantly, but it does make his shot not as accurate as the angle is registered as a 'glancing' blow. Luckily, Beckham finishes off the Caprican on the Blue team. With Gage the only armed one remaining, he calls out to the man in their native language, <<Tomak! I have Rhodes here hostage, drop your weapon and she will be unharmed. There may be a cigarette in it for you if you do!>>

Another satisfied grunt as Gage's gun registers a hit. He darts another glance towards the playground. Their Caprican defender is out, and Cate's still busy playing shield to Aleksander. <<Just one? Have you spent too much time with the Capricans, brother? That's as stingy an offer as one!>> The combat engineer mutters under his breath as he tries to get a bead on Beckham to, presumably, even up the odds. All's fair in negotiation, right?

If only Cate could understand Tauran, she might be tempted to argue her hostage status, because she's still fighting for all she's worth to get enough leverage to get Aleksander into a hold of some kind. Of course, it's a task not made any easier by all the gear they're both wearing, and the fact that he's got five inches and a lot of pounds on her.

Gray passes.

Gray might be making his way to the sidelines...but he's gathered that something isn't right in how this is all playing out. Fortunately he doesn't speak Tauran...very fortunately. Still, once he's out of obvious sight of the scene, he slides behind a tree to watch.

Donny comes shuffling out from some bushes as he comes up out behind Gray, before sitting down nearby Gray's own tree and pushing his back up against the trunk of a tree of his own. He looks over to Gray, and then over his shoulder at the fight. "They're still goin' at it?" he asks, offering over a rolled up joint to his fellow casualty along with a lighter.

Gray nods to Donny, accepting the offered smoke. "Thanks." Puff. "Yeah, they are. Aleks and Tomak are apparently trying to talk it out..." Gray lets out a snort at the idea...yes, he is amused. Very amused.

It seems like Aleksander's hostage is not complying like the way he wants. He does get a shot off at Gage but again, Cate's movements makes his aim a little shakey but not only that, she finds a way to escape and reverse the position. The Tauron finds himself in a somewhat compromised position with his arm, so he forgets about his Tauron opponent, now trying to free his arm and reverse their position again.

That is definitely not friendly. Gage's grunt is one of surprise as Aleksander fires his way, the hit registering as the laser splashes off the armor on his leg. Another darted look sees... gods! He gives a chuckling rumble of approval as he spots Cate grappling with Aleksander. "Way to go, Rhodes!" he calls, leaving her to keep the other Tauron occupied as he lines up another shot on the other medic.

Cate grunts and twists and manages to get enough leverage on Aleksander's arm to reverse the hold. She's as surprised as anybody really. Now if she can just hold onto it - she's trying to use the new-found leverage to force him down to the ground.

Aleksander successfully subdues Cate.

Donny passes.

Beckham attacks Gage with Rifle+Ap but MISSES!

Gray passes.

"Frak yeah!" is Gage's delighted call as the second-to-last attacker goes down. Now, though, he advances back to the edge of the playground, eyeing the struggle between Cate and Aleksander. <<How about that cigarette, brother?>> He's grinning, gun held out to one side in the universal signal of truce. "Assuming," he switches back to standard, "Rhodes is done kicking your ass?"

With Aleksander now completely focused on the combat medic, he is able to overpower her again, muscling the arm out of the armbar instead of being forced down like Cate wanted. Once again, he has her in his grasp and a quick glance shows that Gage has dispatched Beckham with a very well placed shot to the chest. Now he is the one outnumbered. "Frak!" A quick plan of action is made and instead of trying to keep the feisty Hibernian as a hostage, which worked poorly last time, he shoves her in the other Tauron's direction. Then he is raises his rifle and takes aim at Gage. It seems like Aleksander's plan is to have Cate as a distraction, so both his and the combat engineer's shot will either hit each other, hit Cate, or miss. Hearing his Tauron brother's offer, a short and crisp reply is answered, <<Nyet!>>

Donny blinks, and then leans over to watch. "No way..." he murmurs as squints and watches over to get a glimpse at what's going on out there. "Huh. They are." he says, a brow rising as the corner of his lips pull up. "That's frakkin' goofy." he says with a shake of his head and shuffles over a bit to get a better view to watch. His hand comes out, and his fingers wiggling back at himself to show he wants a puff.

And once again, Aleksander ties Cate up in a hold. When he shoves her forward, she loses her balance and ends up sprawling in the dirt. And there, exhausted and breathing hard, the medic has had enough. "Frak this," she mumbles. She unclips the strap on her helmet and lets it roll loose, just laying there with her arm draped across her sweaty forehead, looking up at the tree branches above. Her chest heaves as she tries to catch her breath.

Aleksander attacks Gage with Club but hits the COVER they're behind.

Gage passes.

Gray passes.

Donny passes.

Beckham passes.

"That's...frakkin' Taurans..." Gray sighs, taking another drag and returning the lighter to Donny. "I think we should just consider ourselves lucky that the toasters aren't tied to any of the Colonies. If they'd picked Tauron to throw in with for a few weeks we'd all have been frakked..." he says, gesturing to the drama going on on-field. Some days he's /really/ glad his family is from the Caprican side of that ancient pissing match.

All that close combat with Aleksander's laser rifle might have taken a toll on the simulated weapon because when he presses the trigger, it didn't shoot. Of course, Gage might not realize that and before the Timberwolve's rifleman attempts to fire off another shot, he sees that Cate has actually surrendered and is not getting up. There is a frown as if he is afraid that it is a trick but he looks over to Gage who holds a neutral pose. Aleksander /did/ have in mind earlier that if he and Gage were the last two standing, he would just offer a smoke. <<Grr... you rejected my offer before, but very well.>> Lowering his rifle, his left arm fishes in his pocket for his pack of cigarette, pulling it out, visible as he walks towards the other Tauron.

Gage spares a flickered glance for Cate when she goes sprawling into the dirt, but his attention doesn't linger long. Instead, his brows go upward in surprise at Aleksander's answer. With his weapon held out to one side, he won't swing it around in time before Aleksander fires. He goes still, and only exhales again when the other Tauron lowers his weapon. Grinning, he walks over to join the two remaining 'survivors', giving Cate a sympathetic grin as he reaches for one of Davy's cigarettes. <<Forgive and forget, brother,>> is what he finally says. And: "Thought you had him there for a moment, Rhodes."

The fact that Cate's still laying down and unbuckling her flak vest is another good indication that she's done, no tricks here. "Yeah, well... only because he didn't shoot me when he had the chance." A weak smirk is offered up to the Tauron boys.
