A squadron of Wolves have been sent to guard one of the side tunnels of a tyllium mine. Local forces are handling the main entrance, but it's the fleet that will be guarding the smaller side tunnels. Already there's some grumbling about the assignment; talk of the locals not trusting the contingent from the Dauntless or missing out on the main action. Others, however, feel relieved at getting the so-called 'easy' job. Older (some might say smarter) members of the guard have pointed out that attacks don't always come from the front.

Either way, the Wolves have already been through one shift and night has fallen. Hours in with no action, but the radio has reported that the local Sagittaron guard has been dealing with a pair of tanks bearing down on the main entrance. The Wolves are to hold the line.

The side entrance is largely for carting the tyllium in and out; there's tracks, a few empty (automated, motorized) carts sitting dormant, and piles of dusty rocks sitting to either side from when the tunnels were cleared. The tunnel doors themselves are closed off. Large, steel things. Sandbag-backed walls have been setup in advance to provide cover, but beyond that it's just you, the hillsides of the canyon, and the great night sky.

The downside of both location and duty for one Charlie Wagner is that she was told no sniping. Sure, she's got her usual weapon, but it's in mid-range, burst mode. She's down in the mix (as it were) with everyone else on guard shifts. The woman has come off of one of the primary shifts and has her back to one of the makeshift walls as she tears into one of the MREs with wild... okay, she can't even fake it. Spectre is slowly opening the packaging with the uncertainty it is due after sneering at the claim of 'chicken pasta' marked on the outside. "I doubt a chicken came within twenty yards of this shit," she mutters as she dumps the contents into her lap. There's a tilt of her head at the sounds of combat in the distance. "Dunno if I'm relieved or jealous to be here instead of there."

While standing around and guarding is boring, Gage is nothing if not an expert in waiting for things. He's leaning one shoulder against a tunnel wall, the muzzle of his rifle resting across his elbow as he yawns. "Tanks, huh?" he, for one, seems quite content to leave the tanks to others, though he does reflexively pat various pockets, undoubtedly mentally cataloguing how many grenades and/or explosives he might have on his body. "Keep an eye out, eh, Wagner?" one of the downsides of being good at spotting things is that people rely on you to spot things. Gage, for his part, is making an oh-so-familiar gesture towards Aleksander. Smoke time? Surely.

Gray is presently counting his blessings for an easy round of duty: He's still sore from the scaffolding collapse, and he'd probably have been profiled out of a long march. He's also got an MRE out, though he can share Charlie's skepticism with some ease. "Would you prefer mine? It's being sold as 'beef strips with pasta in sauce'." To be fair, there are only two things he likely wouldn't trade off: Either a PB&J soft taco or sloppy joe mix.

Though the assignment Aleksander had drawn for the day was not the main action but simple guard duty of a side tunnel of a tyllium mine, he doesn't seem to mind since it is less of a chance of running into any trouble. When the reports of two tanks come in, the Tauran can't help but frown since there is trouble in the vicinity of their area of control. No MRE for him but he is taking drags of a cigarette, which isn't a surprise to anyone that has been with the outfit long. "Wagner, mind if I take a nap? Just call out if you see anything." As for Gage, the gesture is a familiar one and he nods to his Tauran brother, taking a final drag of his own before dropping the short remaining stub and crushing it under the heel of his boot. Then he heads to where the combat engineer is, pulling out his pack of cigarettes to share.

It must be about time for Akeso to make the rounds then, since she strolls out of the tunnel in full gear, rifle slung. With the sun long down, she doesn't have to check every one for dehydration or worse anymore, but she still looks people over more like they're walking maladies than fellow marines. She has very sharp eyes for that kind of thing. "Is it past your bedtime?" She casually asks Aleksander as she overtakes the pair of Taurons and stops, two steps ahead. There's a half turn and a raised brow, as if she's honestly curious.

"Frak you," Charlie calls after Gage. "I just came off watch." She holds up her MRE as evidence of 'not working right now.' As for Aleksander, she just gives him a long look. "I ain't in charge here." Meaning: don't ask me if you can blow off duty. There's a small shake of her head to Gray with an extra wary eye for his MRE. "I'm good, thanks... Or as good as I'll get, I think." She's got the hot sauce packet. That'll cover just about anything up. Balancing her rifle against her hip, she tucks in, downing the food about as quick as she can manage to inhale it. Partially to just get it over with and partially because things could go down. Doubtful they will based on intel, but you never know with the toasters.

Don't mind Erin. Really! When on a mission, the Trash Panda is strangely quiet. "Strange," if you happen to know her from the ship, where she literally has the problem of not being able to shut the frak up. This means that having her around is tolerable.

Spectre has her MREs; the Trash Panda just has fruit. She munches idly on an apple, keeping her rifle loaded and ready to bear. She's a few paces away from everyone else, perhaps to keep her eye out for the rear of the column and to keep her distractions down. She might get antsy, after all, and start biting.

"A nap sounds like a fine idea," Gage is agreeing with Aleksander, even as he accepts one of the offered cigarettes with an upnod of thanks. "Frak, Wagner probably should've been assigned this solo." He gives an easy grin at her response to him, adding, "But you're so good at it, Wagner." Flattery -- sometimes it gets you out of the shit jobs. At Akeso's approach, he gives a fleeting grin, now. "Must be all the heat. Should be medically recommended to nap, right?" It's worth a short, and either way it's swiftly followed by another yawn before he lifts the cigarette to his mouth.

Yay hot sauce! "What she said..." Gray offers preemptively. "Your loss...it's..." he spoons a bite and then makes a face. "...delicious." No, not even prospective students on a campus tour would buy that statement. Still, it's food, and it goes towards his required calorie count for the day, so it's something.

When the new medic comes by, Aleksander can only offer an amused smirk and instead of denying or objecting to her question, he can only shrug his shoulders in response, "Bedtime can be anytime, though the ground is pretty hard here. Is the ground softer where there is more sand?" Assuming that further out is desert terrain. When Gage mentions that Charlie could probably handle this job solo, the Tauran rifleman nods his head in full agreement, "She took out the blue team all by herself on defense, some badass stuff." While Aleksander on the other hand negotiated world peace with a cigarette on his end. After the combat engineer takes a smoke, Davion offers Akeso the pack as well for her to take one in case she is a smoker as well, never know until one asks.

<FS3> Charlie rolls Alertness: Good Success (7 6 6 5 5 5 2 2 1 1)

<FS3> Erin rolls Alertness: Great Success (8 8 8 7 6 5 4 1 1)

<FS3> Gage rolls Alertness: Success (7 5 4 3 2 1 1)

It would probably be difficult to take Akeso seriously if she was the type to throw her not considerable weight around, so she just smirks right back at Aleksander. "If you're actually exhausted, let me know." Assuming he's not, she looks over at Gage and noting that there's no blood spurting out of him, she nods and moves on. "There's tanks, someone said? Do we have anyone forward here, to make sure there's not a column of toasters marching up the road?" She asks no one in particular, walking on to where the rest of the group are chowing down so she can check them over for obvious signs of injury too.

<FS3> Akeso rolls Alertness: Success (6 5 5 4 3 1 1)

Or MRE poisoning.

<FS3> Aleksander rolls Alertness: Great Success (8 8 8 7 6 4 2 1)

<FS3> Gray rolls Alertness: Good Success (8 7 6 6 5 4 3 1)

Charlie was forward. She just got off of being on watch. Who was up next? She doesn't know? So all the sniper does is shrug and tuck back into her meal. As for the tanks: "Last check-in on the radio said they're all still up front. Pretty sure they'd be too slow moving to make it this way without us noticing." The tanks, that is. Anything else? Hey, she already turned down taking someone else's watch. Nope, she's eating. Someone else can do their damn job.

The joking about bad food quickly gives way to Gray suddenly lifting a hand into the air and forming a 'hold' fist. In context, it's more 'Shut up I hear something' than 'stop moving', and in fact it might not be /quite/ the right signal...but that's beside the point. 'STFU' is a valid signal on this one, but that particular message lacks its own hand gesture so this one will have to work.

Lighting up, Gage curls his hand around the cigarette as much out of habit to protect it from wind as to prevent any visible light showing. He takes a deep breath, exhaling smoke. "Aint much we can do with tanks, other than point air support at them and go nap for the hour it takes them to show up." He doesn't hear shit, so he just keeps smoking.

When Gray's fist goes up, Erin's apple goes down. Quietly, she flips her rifle around, and gets her feet solidly on the ground in case the command to move comes. Tanks are the bane of any furry scavenger, but they are definitely filled with the attractive shinies that a trash panda normally would prize. (Schweet, nourishing weaponry.)

Loose guard duty is what Aleksander would consider his current duty is at, thus the semi-seriousness of his attitude for the most part and the sharing of cigarettes. However, his senses seem to be sharper than what most would expect because over the sound of fighting at the main entrance that is further away, the Tauran's ears picks up other mechanical sounds that he will never mistake for anything but Centurions. The pack of smokes is immediately put away and he actually unslings his rifle, perhaps his version of 'this is serious', "Contact inbound." Is the two words he quickly says as he begins heading for one of the sandbag barriers, taking a knee behind it to present a smaller profile to whatever is coming up. Aleksander does gesture in the direction of where he is hearing the sound of toasters closing in.

Other than those with sharp ears (who may or may not be chowing down), it'll be a few seconds (or a moment more) before the marines spot or hear the incoming Centurions. It's a squadron of the gleaming metal machines marching their way up the hill. Not a patrol, either, but a group with intent. Most of them have their usual kit of tripods at the ready, but one in the rear holds a special charge that Gage would recognize: one intended to blow through the mine entrance. The very same one the Wolves are protecting.

"No one. Okay, toss me the hand held and I'll go up." Akeso volunteers herself, even if she isn't hearing much but the distant rumble of tanks. She's in the midst of that when Gray gives the STFU gesture and she does just that, listening hard into the darkness of the night outside the tunnel. Out of reflex and training she steps aside behind the sandbags and brings her rifle up to her shoulder, hissing, "What is it?" If she could peer harder, she certainly would.

The other Tauran's words make Gage straighten from his half-slouch against the wall, grinding what is disappointingly only a half consumed cigarette out underfoot as he takes a knee behind the sandbags at Aleksander's side. He still doesn't hear shit, but he trusts his fellow marines when it comes to this stuff. It gives him a moment to slip gum from his shoulder pocket, chewing, before he finally spots the approaching group of centurions. It isn't until he sees the one at the back with, "Frak. They're going to try and blow the entrance. That one at the back's carrying charges," he mutters, hand straying to the webbing of his vest carrying the grenades.

Gray nods in response to the 'contact inbound', readies his rifle, and (quickly but quietly) takes up a position behind one of the sandbag barriers. Well, so much for a quiet evening of guard duty... For obvious reasons he doesn't say anything...no reason to give the toasters any unnecessary help guessing at their position, strength, etc.

When Aleksander mentions contacts inbound, Charlie scrambles to her feet; uncaring of the discarded food. She probably wasn't going to finish it anyway. Her rifle is quickly in hand and switched to burst fire. She doesn't even initially sling it properly over her shoulder. There may be time for that later. There may not. Instead, she's crouching down behind the wall alongside Gray. Once she does spot the Centurions, there's a frown and a sidelong look towards the two Taurans- specifically Gage. "Safe to target that one?" The one with the charges, likely.

"Unless it's already armed, it will be. If it's already armed, we're frakked anyway." Cheerful as ever, Gage.

When Aleksander is serious, his demeanor is certainly very different than how he usually is as he is down to business now. When the Centurions appear visually, his eyes confirm what his ears hear and seeing a good number, he is already pulling a round frag grenade that is clipped to him. When he sees Gage doing the same, he gives the other Tauran a nod, "On three, Tomak." A brief pause before he begins the count, "One... two... three!" And the pin is pulled, then the toss, an arcing throw.

Cent4 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Erin, Gage)

Cent6 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Charlie)

The command to attack is given. When the grenade is tossed, Erin pops her head and weapon over cover and peppers the Mine-Carrying Centurion with a three-round burst. Ping-ping-CRUNCH. One of the bullets pierces and rattles around in sensitive parts of the Centurion, which is then hit with the blast of the grenade, knocking it over and out. The Trash Panda quickly draws up her next target, as chilly as ever.

Chewing of Gage's gum ceases for a moment as he pops the pin of his grenade and aims a throw down towards the rear of the group when Aleksander's count gets to three. As much as he loves a good explosion, there's plenty of fire coming in, and so he ducks back down behind the sandbags as he swings his rifle back around, just as bullets come thudding into the sandbags he's hunkered behind. Surely, the twin booms that follows is satisfying enough, to judge by the fleeting, satisfied grin. Once the first volley of fire has ceased, he pops up, marks where the centurion carrying the mine fell -- just in case of later need -- and then aims at one of the centurions that's firing on their medic.

The squadron of Centurions open fire almost as soon as they spot the Wolves, but it's to no avail. The prepared walls are more than enough protection for the marines. Most of the fire scatters ineffectually off of walls, sandbags, and the rocks themselves. Between Erin's sharpshooting and the grenades, the protected machine with its charges shudders and drops to the ground in pieces and parts. Thankfully, its payload was not yet set to detonate. Of the seven, however, five still approach and four appear to be almost wholly unharmed.

"Light em up." Akeso calls just as soon as the grenades are sailing out, then she does just that, firing at one of the centurions at the front. She hits the center of it, bullets ricocheting off the heavy armor with one shot taking a gouge out of its face. Doesn't seem to bother it overly much, and the one next to it fires a burst at her. She ducks down as the grenades explode, shifts a bit and rising up again to take a bead on one of the remaining toasters.

Even without her weapon in sniper-mode, Charlie is still a deadly shot... as evidenced by events like the 'capture the flag' part of the games back on Caprica. The first bullet pings off the side of the Centurion's head, but the second takes it clean off. It drops before it can even get off a round of fire on Aleksander. The woman drops, briefly behind the wall she's using for cover so she can sling the strap over her shoulder before she's back up for round two; this time aiming at whichever one is nearest. It's into the fray now. There's no time to be picky about targets. It's all about taking them down.

Gray opens fire...somewhat ineffectively, it would seem, since while several of his bullets find their target, metal is apparently more resistant to them than is flesh. Who knew?

Mentioning flesh, there's a grunt/growl as one of the Centurions' bullets wings him. It's nothing to write home about (he's far more used to this sort of thing than he should be, he'll probably muse later), but it's still a petty annoyance and the source of just a little more red on the field.

The shrapnel from Aleksander's frag grenade was very ineffective this time around as most of the shards of metal basically scratch up the Centurion's metal plating instead of punching through with explosive force. With a scowl of disappointment and frustration as he sees the results. But there isn't too much time to mope because he brings his assault rifle to bear, switching to burst fire mode and he takes aim at the that is trying to take out their somewhat important combat medic.

Cent5 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Charlie)

The Centurions are getting closer and they're not going down very fast, either. Another drops, but the others seem to just be rather shedding off the bullets like they're nothing. Too close in range for grenades, but getting near enough that they might get near the walls soon enough. At the very least, there aren't any others coming up the hill.

...yet.

This time, Gage sees the ineffectual results of his bullets pinging against the centurion, a couple slamming against its armor, but far from enough to stop it entirely. "Frak," he grunts, more for the lack of impact, than for the bullets that whiz past his head in return. Shifting his weight, he takes aim again at the same centurion.

The Raccoon attacks again. Ping! Byow! Pew! She keeps her rifle aimed at her current, whilst keeping herself as low, low, low, low as possible behind cover.

Aleksander's aim is pretty on point but his rifle arounds are bouncing off of the armored plating of the Centurions, one managing to make a small hole in the midsection but the rest just glancing off. He continues to focus on the toaster that he was aiming at since it hasn't gone down yet, steadying his aim and firing off another burst.

Gray can see his shots making dents and /maybe/ skewing a few wires, but the lack of other impact (combined with getting winged again) has him muttering unpleasant prayers and comments. Well, either that or he's asking for some sauce for his clam strips...tartar and Tartarus can sound rather alike amid the noise.

"Sarge," Charlie calls out towards Akeso. "Kinda worried we might wanna fall back for more room soon." Because those tincans are getting awful close and no one likes being close quarters with a large machine gun. No one. Not even the heavy weapons specialists in the Wolves. She's managed to drop another one, but one-by-one isn't fast enough. At least the charge-carrier amongst the centurions is down, but what will they do if they get close to them? She does look sidelong at Gray. "How ya holding up, Anderson? Still good?"

Akeso's next volley is wilder after the first plinks off one of the centurions, mostly because she takes a bullet in the chest that slams her back onto her elbows behind the wall, causing the last two shots of the burst to fly more skyward than not. There's a gasp from her, but since she can breath and her hand comes back away from her armor without a thick coating of red, she decides she's fine and drags herself back up. There's no time for a nap, so she gets back to it. Jaw clenched and undoubtedly a bit angry. "Once more, then we withdraw into the tunnel if they're still coming. You three first, and then the Taurons and I after, covering each other."

Cent2 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Aleksander)

Cent7 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Charlie, Akeso)

Gray is returning fire pretty steadily, mostly shrugging off the wounds, when he suddenly feels an all-too-familiar punch to his chest and falls backwards. A moment later he's getting up...but as he takes his position back up, he feels something that is clearly more than just the usual 'bullet punched my vest' pain. "Oh, frak..." he mutters, letting another burst out and praying that they'll be able to see off this wave before he passes out from blood loss or something.

Between herself and the doc, another Centurion goes down. However, Charlie spots that round of fire make it past their wall and hit the Lance Corporal she's been sharing the cover with. The woman swears and calls towards Akeso: "Medic! Anderson's been hit!" She moves in closer to the man, "Can you make it back to the tunnel?" Then louder, again, to the corpsman: "I'll stay out and provide cover, Sarge, so you can tend to him."

It's only the gasp that makes Gage glance, sidelong, towards Akeso. "You good, Ma?" because she's still standing, and she definitely knows better him if she's fine or not. He grimaces over the sandbags, glances back up the tunnel, says, "Roger that, Davy and I will keep 'em distracted," to the orders, and fires again. While his bullets hit, he can practically hear them pinging off metal, they're that close now, earning a grimace as they do little -- thankfully Aleksander's shots are far more effectual than his. A quick glance over his shoulder at their retreat point, and he catches sight of Gray, swearing briefly as he seeks to fire again, this time laying down suppression to allow the others to retreat.

Charlie and Akeso may be conversing, but no one's issued a command to the mighty Trash Panda. She remains behind her cover, pot-shotting bursts at the same damned Centurion as before. Not a word is spoken from her, as she continues to defend her place fervently, but silently. Her rifle does the talking for her. Pew pew pew!

"Merveilleux!" The medic answers Tomak in a snarl that suggests, well, maybe not so much. She is still mobile though. Frak. Best laid plans and all. Akeso, nods to Charlie before dropping behind cover and crouch walking to Gray to pull him along with. "Same plan, different players. Anderson, Hayes, with me. Into the tunnel. We'll cover the rest." She looks Gray over quickly then, but if he's still moving, he's healthy enough. "Allons-y. If you need help, lean on me. I won't break."

On getting tapped to move, Gray grunts back that he's fine...but he also starts moving, offering a parting shot or two on the way back. Orders are orders, and...well, he ends up leaning slightly on Akeso. Looking down? Well, frak, that's a lot of blood...

Check that. Erin hears her name. And, as bidden, she slides out from cover, and starts to retreat further into the tunnel. Keepin' low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low. And firing.

With the Centurion he was targeting going down, Aleksander quickly snaps to a new target, seeing that they are getting closer and closer with each passing second. "Fall back if needed, Ma, we'll play rearguard if more of the canners show up." He then glances to his side briefly, "Tomak, you have any claymores or stuff that goes boom in case another wave of them shows up advancing on the mine?" Then his eyes are down the sights of his rifle and he fires off another burst of bullets.

Whoa! That got 'im! Once her target goes down -- with Aleksander's minimal support, of course -- Erin turns her attention to Akeso for a moment, nodding at her. "Almost out," she reports gruffly before pointing her rifle at the last remaining Centurion, probably to discharge another burst before reloading. She continues her slow retreat.

Her helmet takes most of the shot, but there's enough searing heat across the side of her face that Charlie knows some of it got her. The woman hisses with it, but doesn't say anything. It's not bad enough to do so. She's still standing, she can still see straight, and she doesn't feel knocked around enough to warrant concussion. It's not near so bad as Anderson over there. With one more Centurion down, they're almost in the clear. "You two see anything else out there?" She's ready to make the retreat back to the tunnel with Aleksander and Gage, but for the last advancing mook they've got to deal with. The woman is covered with sweat and sand; most of the latter stirred up by the battle. A shower, once their duty is over, will be damn nice.

For some reason, that snarl from the sergeant makes Gage grin. Probably because he interprets any snarky answer as confirmation enough of being hale and hearty. Leaning briefly on the sandbags, he sprays fire at the centurions, thankfully more effectively suppressing them than any luck he was having actually damaging them. It doesn't stop bullets flying towards the retreating group though, and he's growling under his breath. "Can't see shit," he reports, tersely.

It takes some time but Aleksander's shots are finally becoming brutally lethal as his burst fire tears into the Centurion he was shooting at, basically gutting the Cylon while the last two bullets slam into its chest, knocking is back and down, out of the fight. Perhaps he was napping earlier and had just woken up, sleepwalking through the first half of the firefight. With one toaster left, the Tauran takes aim and that is when he hears Charlie's question, "One large, frakking toaster still marching towards us with a suicide wish!" Is the answer, perhaps not one the recon sniper was looking for but for the moment Davion is focused on taking down the last Cylon that is advancing on their position.

Akeso might look a bit twiggy, but she's solid enough to lean into so she helps Gray along with an arm around his waist. With her rifle slung over her shoulder, she forces her hand up under his armor and puts pressure on the wound to keep some of his blood inside where it belongs. Like that the pair head for the tunnel entrance and everything is going as well as it can until she's stumbled by another hit. Between the two of them they manage to stay upright and she soldiers on until they're in cover again. "You'll be alright, Anderson. Can you breath? Put your hand here and apply pressure." She instructs, taking her own away, bringing the rifle up and pointing it outside. "Covering fire, Hayes."

Gray sets his rifle down and does as he's instructed, putting pressure on the wound. Yes, he can breathe...but he just nods back in response. He'll talk more if he has to, but for now... "Go. Battle. Kill toasters."

Cent3 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Aleksander, Erin, Akeso, Gage, Charlie)

Finally, Gage's bullets impact on the approaching Centurion, tearing through its chest. He's less satisfied than he could be, though, because he sees something flying out of the corner of his eye, turning his victory grin into a snarl as he turns. "Frak, Davy! Ma, double-time!" He leaves medic-ing to the experts, and instead edges out past the sandbags, looking to scout to see if there's any more centurions coming their way.

The shots exchanged between the last Centurion that Aleksander was mocking and himself is not the outcome he had expected. Just as he pulled the trigger, his head suddnely snaps back and he almost falls on his back in shock. At the last second, he quickly sticks out his hand and keeps himself from falling but he is certainly in a daze. One of the bullets from the Centurion's main armament had come close to ending his life, a little more to the left and it would have been lights out. Instead, it leaves a nasty cut at his right cheek, perfectly crossing the vertical scar that he has in that location from his days as a youth. He is bleeding from the wound as he shakes his head, trying to clear the cloudy state.

When the final centurion falls and the echoes from their weapons fire fall quiet in the hillside, there's no further sounds save for the ongoing battle at the main entrance in the distance. This must have been the only squadron sent up their way. There's metal littering the hillside leading up to their 'stand,' but none stir. It would seem they've held their position. Unfortunately, they still have to hold it until the dawn...

Akeso sends three rounds outside, her shots joining the swarm that chews up the remaining Cylon. When it topples over, obviously finished, she trades out rifle for her medical bag. As she's unzipping that in a kneel next to Gray, she calls outside, "If there's nothing else coming, I want that explosive secured and someone get on the radio for a sitrep, they're going to want to know what all the noise was about. Anyone else wounded?" She's already tearing open a bandage at that point, giving the wounded Marine a smile that suggests what she's going to do next might 'pinch a little'.

The last Centurion falls, but like Tomak, Charlie caught the hit to Davion. The sniper swears and scatters across the sand and gravel towards Aleksander, slinging her rifle back over her shoulder to clear it out of the way. "Davion's been hit," she calls back towards Ma, moving to get to the Tauran's side. "C'mon, gonna need your help." Considering he's got a foot of height on her. "Let's get you back to the medic." But since they seem to be in the clear, they can at least take their time of it.

Centurion down. Erin quickly scans the scene, and takes a moment to reload her weapon. Sensing no further hostilities for now, she awaits further orders -- and then it comes from Akeso. "Acknowledged. Moving to secure the explosive." The Trash Panda finishes her reload, and then skulks over to where the explosive is. Does she even know how to defuse one of those, in case they are live? Silly raccoon.

Gray grins (or winces, it's anyone's guess) as Akeso returns to tend to his wound. "When you're done sticking a tampon in me, could I have my MRE? The Centurions really had bad timing and I'd like to finish..." Wow...ok, either he's going into shock or combat /really/ worked up an appetite for him. He does, however, smile to Akeso to make it clear that no, he's not being a jerk whatever comes next...even if he suspects it's going to be a bit more than just the 'usual' since there's a bullet to extract.

When Charlie comes by, Aleksander shakes his head slightly but that makes it a little bloodier, "I think I'm okay..." He says and when he can actually talk, he feels better about his expert, self medical assessment. Since he isn't bleeding heavier than he is, and he is talking without an issue, plus he is conscious, the Tauran concludes that it was not bad of a hit. He does slowly get to his feet with the sniper's assistance though he will not be putting most of his weight on the smaller recon marine as they beginning to head towards the mine entrance. "Where my pack of cigarettes."

"You cover Tomak, Hayes. If so much as a cricket farts out there, I want to know immediately." Akeso calls after her, before shaking her head. "You'll be eating hospital food when you eat next, Anderson. Sorry. Let's get this off and the bleeding stopped." The armor she means, since she starts to unfasten and pull it off, then yup, she's stuffing gauze in a hole and patching it over. It should hold until he gets to a real doctor. As she works, she glances aside at Aleksander, upnodding to the wall alongside. "You'd better sit down over here. Why'd you try and catch a bullet with your head, marine?"

Gray doesn't swear, but he grunts and growls quite a bit as his armor is pulled off and the gauze goes in. He also sighs at the food bit. Oh, well...it /could/ be worse.

"Roger that," grumps the Trash Panda. She wanted to pick up the explosives. Damned engineers get all the fun. Welp. Duties are as duties are, so Erin finds her previous cover, and then sets up to cover the entrance to the mine again.

"It could be a diet of daily MREs," Charlie offers to Gray as she and Aleksander near the tunnel entrance and the protective cover it provides. When Aleksander inquires of his cigarettes, she reaches for the pocket she saw him -- yes, she is alert -- tuck them into earlier and produces the pack, offering them up. "He got jealous of my headwound back in Delphi," she quips. The woman does have a small rivulet of blood down the side of her own face, but it's not nearly to the level of Davion or Anderson. Once the Tauran is settled in with cigarette to be tended next, she posts up by the entrance to keep watch.

When the combat medic directs him to sit at a particular spot, Aleksander doesn't argue much though he does grumble at her question, "I thought it was a Leonese Princess... frakking toaster got lucky." He's apparently a bit peeved that he took such an unnecessary wound, especially at the tail end of the firefight. He does make sure the safety on his rifle is on first before leaning it against the wall. That is when Charlie helps Davion find his pack of cigarettes, accepting it graciously. Then he turns around and slowly lowers himself into a sitting position, back leaning against the wall as he waits for Akeso to come take a look and tell him it's only a scratch. Rothschild would never let him hear the end of it if he shows up on the Dauntless with anything worse. He begins fumbling with the pack, trying to open it so he pull one out, his motor functions still a little dazed at the moment.

"When I'm done with this dirt eater, I'll want a look at you too, Wagner." Akeso warns, definitely not missing the blood dripping down the sniper's face. She's probably like a shark, able to sense it by smell even in water and miles distant. She drags her pack one patient to the left and drops into a crouch in front of Davy right after, eyeing him almost crossly. As if it were somehow his fault for getting shot. From her kit she grabs a squeeze bottle of saline, and grabbing hold of his chin to keep his head still, she washes some of the blood away to see what she's dealing with. "You'll be okay, just a bit uglier. How's your vision? I want you to follow my finger with your eyes." So naturally she lifts a finger and moves it slowly back and forth. No matter the response, she reaches for some fresh dressings from her kit.

"Gimme one of those," Charlie notes to Aleksander when Akeso makes mention that she'll be next. She lifts a hand to touch the side of her face, drawing away some of the sticky red substance already drying there. She frowns a bit, but just scrubs it off on her fatigues. It's not nearly so bad as the time the Cylon sniper got her in the head. She squints off in the distance; towards Gage and Erin, past them. "I think we're clear. Just got... hours to go before relief." And they can get back to the ship.

"That means we're not clear," says Erin from her post dourly. She reaches into her pack, and pulls out another apple from it. Where the hell does she keep those things? Did she clear out the little pockets for grenades, and stuck in apples? Damned raccoon is like a shimigami, or something, with her apple-obsession.

The cross look leveled at Aleksander by Akeso is responded to with a scowl in kind, a mixture between 'It's not my fault' and 'Yeah, I know' in his facial expression. It looks like his pride took a bigger hit than what gave him the actual physical wound. He doesn't resist treatment though and remains silent, knowing that any protest would only delay the process. This is certainly not his first rodeo with a combat medic. "Fine," Is the only answer he provides to her question about his vision and he follows her finger without an issue, his head beginning to clear, the shock of getting nailed in the face wearing off. He does relinquish the pack of cigarettes to Charlie if she wants to pick it up, not having enough time to fetch himself time and smoking now would only hamper the medical attention he is currently receiving.

"You might have a mild concussion, so don't go to sleep until you're checked out properly." Akeso tells the tauran as she deftly works on his head, pressing a gauze pad over the wound and fixing it in place with a tightly applied roll of bandages. "If you try I'll twist your nipples off." She further warns, but it's hard to tell if she's entirely serious with that threat. When she's done, there's a faint smile at the guy and an offer, "I have some stuff for the pain. Just let me know." She'll rise after that, moving on to the next patient, Charlie. "Wagner."

Well, Akeso sounds like a pleasant doctor to be tended by. Erin looks over her shoulder, and makes a snorting sound before digging into her apple. See, she wasn't injured at all. So, she's safe from nipple-twisting. For now. She keeps guard while Gage goes about disarming and seizing the explosive device.

The pack of cigarettes is retrieved and Charlie pulls forth one... and unless he keeps the lighter with the pack, well, she'll have to move to the Tauran's side to get that as well. If so, she'll stop there to pull out a second smoke for him as well. When the medic decides it's her turn, she sighs and unclips her helmet to pull it off, tilting her head to be seen. Mostly a burn from where the bullet seared by, but just a nip across the skin as well. Nothing needing more than a patching up, surely. "If there's any nipple twisting," she quips, no even stopping in getting the cigarette lit to start smoking during her examination, "I want to be there to watch."

Akeso has a light touch, for someone threatening nipple twists offhand like that, but she is firm and not shy about it either. She cups Charlie's chin with one hand and puts the other to the back of her head, tilting until she's got enough light the medic can clearly see what she's dealing with. Nothing too bad, comparatively, so she just clucks her tongue softly. "Well, that's not bad. Congratulations, you're not going to die tonight." Is her most solemn diagnosis, then there's a smile and she crouches to go through her bag of medical tricks for an adhesive bandage that's the right size. It goes on without a fuss and she takes a breath when it's over. Not that she rests, there's a glance back at the more seriously wounded pair and a promise, "I'll make sure to holler for you if I catch him drifting off." Then, out to Erin, "How's it going out there, Hayes?"

The concussion protocol isn't new for Aleksander either and he only nods, very slightly. However, her threat has him widening his eyes slightly, more out of surprise than out of fear from the possible repercussions. "Wait what?" As for the pain meds, he only shakes his head slightly, perhaps still perturbed by her threat. He does lapse into silence, just resting for now after the firefight, always willing to do so given the chance.

"It goes." Erin bites into her apple, and chews up the flesh. Her rifle's barrel rests on the edge of her cover. "Got a good view of Tomak's ass. Could potshot it, if we have spare supplies." But she wouldn't do that -- would she? Probably not.

Right?

"Hold your fire, I don't have enough gauze left to plug a secondary butt hole." Akeso calls back, and assuming the report means everything is as okay as it's going to be. She unfastens her own armor then and drops it to the ground to examine the front of her blouse, which is now dark with blood. Despite that, she takes her time unbuttoning that and lifting the front of her tank top for a look. The one in the stomach looks shallow, more a graze than anything, but the one higher on her chest and to the side, south of her armpit looks a bit more serious, already turning into a massive, swollen welt around the broken skin. "That's going to be sore tomorrow." She grouches to herself, but it doesn't look at all fatal and she doesn't rush through the routine to treat both. "Did anyone call this in?"
