Jump to End

The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind of activity, going over the mission plans, checking and rechecking equipment, and planning contingencies. But now the hour of the assault has arrived. The pilots sit in the launch tubes or landing bay on Dauntless, waiting for the jump that will signal their arrival in the combat zone. That'll happen once the marines make a hole in the defense grid. Just another Saturday for the Wolves, right?

The plan is pretty straightforward. The Raptors are each equipped with a nuke. Their job - to get in close to the massive shipyard facility and do as much damage as they can. The Vipers will provide close support. The Battlestars and their squadrons will focus on the shipyard defenses, but the big ships will also launch some nukes once the Wolves are clear of their bombing run.

Eva, as she settles into the cockpit, awaiting her turn to launch, her been her unusually quiet self. She's spoken to the LSO and the flight crew, sounded off when her name was called, but all in all, she's content to wait for the ship to get into position and to prep for the launch of the vipers. What small amount of her attention she's spared from the prep has been to adjust the foreign legion flag, that she's tucked down into its usual spot. That reminder of Smackdown is never left out of her cockpit, regardless of which ship she flies and today, it seems more important to her than in missions past.

Faye sit in the cockpit ready to go, her eyes closed as she hums a soft song to herself and listens for the call. Her foot bounces, making the tail rudder bob a little with nervous energy. Thankfully she's in one of the tubes, so it's not like a whole lot of people will see her besides the tube operator. She's also smiling, thinking of times riding horses if one really wanted to know. Sparkle ponies. Yay! Her eyes slide open, looking over her gauges to make sure that she's all filled up on fuel and ammo.

Calliope sits in the front of her Raptor, going over her pre-launch checklist with her ECO for probably the third time as they wait for the jump-off. There's some extra tension over her spine and in her fingers as they grip her controls. Flying with a nuke is never exactly comfortable.

It's an Ensign Carson, callsign 'Hiccup' in Astraea's backseat today. Pitbull is off elsewhere. Probably relieved for it, too. The Scorpian pilot is focused, at least. Especially so, since the end of leave. One might say hyper focused. Likely, it's for the best. You don't really want to mess around when you have a frakkin' nuke strapped to your bird. There's just some things you don't want going awry and a great, earth shattering kaboom is one of them. That goes wrong? A whole lot of other things go wrong. She's checked and double-checked her pre-flight list and had the Ensign do the same. Perhaps much to his ire.

One Addison "Hurricane" Walker is in his cockpit, waiting in the launch tube like other vipers. Probably just as (if not more than) restless than some.

A bombing run is certainly one way to ease back into things after shore leave. Alain has his music switched up, fingers drumming against the console in his cockpit as he waits for his turn to launch, pausing only briefly to check -- and recheck -- his equipment as the time draws nearer to launch.

Irene is ready, but triple checking everything anyway, just as Wooley is doing the same at the ECM suite in the back. They both play their parts in a game that's become a bit of a preflight tradition in that particular raptor. It's Guess-What-Wooley-Did-Before-The-War. He wasn't a fisherman, nor a cake decorator. "Underwear model?" She guesses, but as is customary, Wooley doesn't answer. He grumps instead about a fuel pressure indicator.

Most of the time Ines is listening to something upbeat in the cockpit -- something to keep her from getting too bored on long patrol flights, or help her focus when things get exciting. Not this time, though. This time, what fills her cockpit while she waits in the tube is orchestral: pure classical, heavy on the intense upswells of strings. She's finished with her flight prechecks and post-precheck-checks and the post-post-precheck-check that followed it, and now her eyes are lidded, gaze unfocused, just listening to the music. It's rare for the leaden blanket of her zen calm to settle on her before a flight, but there it is: an early start.

Busker has been exactly his usually quiet self. His preflights finished as a matter of course, he now sits in the cockpit of his Viper, listening to some quiet piano cadence over the single internal speaker the thing had to offer. His bright, steely eyes close, his head bobs forward with the melody, and his hands check his harnesses for tightness. At least he was already in a tube. Here, the anxiety of waiting was, at least, somewhat private.

Sitting in the cockpit of his Viper, Kell is strapped in and ready to go. He is feeling pretty good, especially with his family visiting when they had the short leave on Scorpia. When news that Libran forces will also be in the area for this operation, there is a slight worry that was there in the young pilot, but also pride as well that his own colony will be front and center as well. Right now though, he is focused on the mission at hand. Raptors are the priority and the ones he is assigned to escort will get his full and undivided attention. For now, he just waits for the countdown to go off, so that he and his fighter can be catapulted out into space and Cylon infested territory.

The music gets pushed up a bit louder by Addison as he settles back into his cockpit and finishes a few last preflight tappings to make sure the lateral thrusters are still reporting the functional levels he wants. With that task finished he resumes what he was doing before, taking a grease marker and making a few notations on a nearby chart that's lamenated over, making a good study of it. Finished, he turns it up and sets it against his cockpit window, the work being dilligently displayed as 'U Suck' written on it.

Stirling's voice comes over the comms. "We've got the 'go' signal from command. Brace for jump. We'll be launching as soon as we jump in." Sure enough, within a minute or so there's the familiar twisting sensation of the ship going through a jump. Then the signal comes from Dauntless launch command: "All fighters, launch when ready."

When they do launch, they're greeted with a rather awe-inspiring sight. Tiny flashes in the far distance mark the space battle going on over yonder, as the allied forces create a diversion to draw away some of the dozens of capital ships in orbit. The giant shipyards are a massive presence in the sky, not too dissimilar to the ones over Scorpia. Capable of constructing several capital ships at once. Even with some of the force distracted, there are still several Basestars in their quadrant, along with several smaller Cylon capital ships. Good thing they've got two Battlestars and a bunch of smaller CF cap ships coming in behind them. It is, shall we say, a target rich environment. Though those targets are still some distance (1 round) away as the Wolves head for the hole that the marines poked in the defense sattelite net.

Eva, thankfully, is one of the first out of the tubes, her thrusters kicking in as soon as she clears the ship, moving into position to pick up her wingman, today, Busker, making sure to keep the ship moving, just in case the enemy actually finds some way to be closer than they appear. And with many more of the cylons having FTLs than the CF does, that's a thing.

The downside of flying a Raptor is that any choice of music runs the risk of getting complained at by your backseater. Or overridden. There's also the need for communication. This is why Astraea often ends up humming or dinging to herself in those quiet moments. Which is exactly what she does while they wait. She braces herself for the jump. Raptor pilot aside, the twisting of her stomach is still not a comfortable one and she blanches a bit in the wake of it; punching thrusters to lift off from the deck and zip out along with the rest. Her wings angle sidelong so she doesn't tangle with the other buses, flitting out into space past the Dauntless hangar to join with the Vipers as they shoot out from their tubes. She catches her breath at the view before shaking her had, starting to aim for the target and already working on aiming vectors for the nuke.

Busker, somehow, times his launch with a natural pause I'm his music. As soon as those aft thrusters kick on, he reaches forward and turns a knob, shutting the sounds off in favor of the stark radio traffic he needed to hear. With a familiar waggle of his wings and goosing of the thrusters, he looks out his port side to ensure Cherry was sitting off his wing. That, causes the blond pilot to smile, offering a thumbs up and pressing it to the window of the aircraft that she may or may not see. Cylons? They only get a cursory glance. He'd be getting enough of them soon enough.

Calliope actually smiles as the ship jumps, briefly enjoying the slight disorienting sensation. And then, the jump is over, and it's go-time. She pushes her Raptor into space, eyes widening slight at the sight of the battle spread out before them. Even with some time in, the awe and terror of that still gets to her. A blink, and she forms up with her flightmates. "Flight, Soundbite. In the air and ready to go. Payload is secured."

When he finally launches, Alain breaths out a sigh that includes a murmur to Ares as he catches sight of the flashes that mark the scope of the large battle arrayed around them. His fingers clench for a moment, but they've a task to complete, and so he forms up, taking up a position of overwatch above the raptors. His gaze is mostly on DRADIS, keeping track of their raptor's locations, while leaving the raptors themselves to alert for unfriendlies.

A target rich environment is no longer a new experience for Kell, but he can't help but be in awe at what he sees after he launches from the Dauntless. First the flashes and lights in the distance of the distraction fleet draws his attention, then the shipyard itself, the massive scale of such an operation. Releasing an impressed whistle, Razor finally looks over to the others who are launching from the Dauntless and angles his Viper towards one of the Vipers, taking up escort formation.

A shove backward into her seat as the viper is shoved out of the vessel, a sigh as its now under her control. Faye didn't much care for the waiting, and as soon as she was out - it's looking for Irene and Wooley. "Iris, Bingo, guess right yet?" A hint of a smile leeching into her voice. She found the whole idea of the guessing game to be entertaining, and asked the other pilot to regale her of the guesses made. "Maybe he was a sous chef?"

Irene keeps guessing what Wooley once was, either to lighten the mood or keep the jitters from taking hold, or simply because she's a mildly crazy sort. This continues during the final checks, after dust off and well out into space as she moves to join her wingmates. "You raised champion dogs? Professional wrestler?" Maybe there's money riding on her guessing correctly. If there is, she's not having any luck so far. Wooley just clams. "Sous chef?" Nothing. "Bingo, Iris. Negative. We'll have to continue after this. I have some ideas." They'll have to wait though, until the whole immediate battle thing is sorted out. "Good hunting."

The misleading lassitude in Ines evaporates when they get the clear to launch. There's more thrust to her acceleration than usual, and she doesn't turn down the music she's listening to -- which means that the awe-inspiring sight that greets her has an alarmingly intense score by which to play out. It's a view containing mind-bogglingly huge things -- shipyards, battlestars -- that gradually becomes about the little things as she looks. In the far distance she finds the allied forces in their diversionary action. The occasional wink of light signals, she suspects, the catastrophic failure of someone's fighter.
No. Now isn't the time to think about that.

She finds the raptor Iris is piloting and Bingo there, as usual, and forms up silently.

Shooting free of the launch tube, Addison does his usual corkscrew free, avoiding a bit of paint rub off while letting loose, a 'whoooo' sound echoing through his cockpit as he lets out a joyous noise. Flipping over to his 'team' channel he speaks calmly. "This is Cane to Team Awesome. Know it's your first time with me. I'm immortal, so I don't really give a frak. You guys might want to be careful though."

The ships close on each other, naturally gravitating toward certain targets. "Whisper, Flight. Weapons free. Remember - our objective is to punch through them, not get drawn into a protracted battle. Good hunting."

The thumbs up she does see, and even returns, before Cherry settles in amidst the array of other ships, not too far, as per usual, from Soundbite's raptor. They've had a good thing going for the better part of a year. terrible to try to break up the team now, right? Still, as if it needed confirmation, "Soundbite, Cherry. Busker and I will be taking you in."

When his wingman forms up, Kell's brows furrow when he hears the chatter from the Viper pilot he is escorting Astraea with, apparently surprised or not use to someone with that kind of flying attitude. "Hurricane, Razor, I'm on your wing." The young Libran says to his wingman as they proceed towards the mission objective. His response is very dull and by the book compared to Hurricane's greeting to the flight element of two Vipers and one Raptor.

Calliope smiles slight. Not that Eva can see that, over the mic, though it might carry into her voice. "Cherry, Soundbite. Copy that. I'll try to keep it straight for you and Busk." She waggles her wings and gets down to business, warming her weps systems as her ECO feeds her updates from the DRADIS.

"Frak's sake, Cane, I've flown with ya before," Nova responds to Addison. "Did ya really drink that much this past week?" The Piconese pilot's lackadaisical attitude helps her ease up a bit which in turn helps her loosen up on the controls some. Her flying smooths out as she eases out to her missiles. "Razor, 'Cane, looks like we've got some heavies out there. I'll try to keep 'em off us."

Almost immediately after they launch, Alain flicks off the music, shifting in his seat to get comfortable and fixed. Time to focus. "Whisper, Jigger. Copy that, weapons free. Let's go keep 'em distracted, Sweetpea," he calls to his wingmate, sounding oddly cheerful despite the battle ranging around them. He glances briefly at DRADIS, expression tightening.

"Won't be a problem at all, Soundbite. Just try not to leave us in too much dust?" Busker's musical accent graces the comms. He, however, maintains his straight course, only shifting his fingers to his weapons systems.

Bingo turns her head to look over at their other routine flight member - Ines - and gives her a little wing waggle. She grinning wider and glances over toward Irene's raptor, then Ines, and a laugh that she holds off of comms until after she's done. A deep breath, an exhale, "Kes, Bingo, for all the sparkle ponies, right?"

For somebody so goofy on the ground, Ines, once she's settled into that hollow, heavy calm, has a very difficult time coming back out of it. But for Faye's wing-wiggle and wry remark she can offer one in return, at least, and: "Bingo, Kes. Every last one."

"Targeting that heavy raider," Stirling announces as she zeroes in on the intended target, missile primed.

As the Colonial Forces approach the Cylon forces, Kell's cockpit suddenly starts squawking at him. The dreaded sound of a missile lock is easily identified by the Libran and he quickly kicks his Viper into a barrel roll, trying to either shake the lock or make it harder for the missile to impact his fighter direction. "Hurricane, Razor, getting locked on. Going evasive, can't cover you for now." Giving his wingman a heads up that his tail is no covered for the time being.

As the make their approach the the raiders, Cherry's internal alarm start flaring, seeing the cylons bunching in around her small group, a couple three evening seeming to be approaching. Well, that she doesn't bother to avoid, instead simply hitting the throttle to meet them head on.

Addison's head tilts to the side and he glances out the edge of his cockpit, seeing a pair of raiders on his own tail but he shakes off and flips his comms. "Razor, Cane. I have a pair on my tail. You worry about yours, I'll take care of these two and the heavy. Nova, you do you."

"Razor, Nova... you gotta stop paintin' targets on your bird." Astraea was already targeting the heavy, so it's just a matter of kicking in the thrusters when it enters their vector. She's only got a pair of missiles today. It's a matter of making them count. The woman's been on record as not fully trusting the pair of munitions. Quantity over... well, quantity in her mind. Even so, it's what the deck crew outfitted her with today. Likely to ensure room for that nuke. "See if you can lead it along for me, Razor."

"Wing three, Iris. That heavy's coming right at me, evading." Irene dutifully reports, watching as both it and a raider streak towards her. It's practically tradition, like her guessing game, for the Cylons to attack her raptor straight off. "Always the same attack pattern from these basics. Attack Iris." She grouses quietly to herself, earning a grumble from the back from her ECO which might be agreement or not.

True to form, Micah follows his wing woman. No comms traffic even needs to be exchanged between the two Captains as their thrusters seem to glow a bit brighter at the same time. The alarms in the Caprican's cockpit? Well. They earn a flick of a knob and a degree of eerie silence. As a matter of course, though? He reaches his non-stick hand out, curling his fingers around an old pair of dog tags hanging from his DRADIS console. The simple motion brings a curl to the corners of his lips.

Calliope finds her place between Eva and Micah as they head toward their objective. There's very little chance she'll outpace the Vipers in her boxy ship, but she flies cautious anyhow. Nuke on board and all. Her ECO preps the jamming systems as they enter the fray of enemy ships.

"Got a couple looking your way, Whisper. Going to provide a little distraction," Jigger reports, immediately breaking towards the nearer of the two raiders trying to focus in on their CAG's raptor. As usual, his flying is even-keeled, not taking any particular risks as he burns hard to meet the raider.

Irene: always so popular. They aren't even close to their destination with Ines' DRADIS begins to deliver bad news. With multiple targets to choose from she waits to see what Faye's plan is before selecting one of the two raiders chasing after the bus. She came burning hard out of the tube and hasn't changed that, on a slightly more aggressive footing than usual, though that's been true of her last few missions out. There's a hard light in her eyes as she banks to realign.

Faye pulls up some as she hears Iris' call, there's been too many incidents lately with her Raptor getting banged up. "Iris, Bingo, I'm gonna try to foul up his aim a bit." She sweeps over top of Irene's and then pulls back over and down letting a burst of her kews toward the oncoming Heavy. And then it's off to find a new target as the merge happens and she yanks back hard to find one.

Flying directly into the oncoming swarm, Eva manages to evade three streams of KEW fire, while taking out one of the offending cylons on the way. The bright flare of incandescence to her right and the sweep of Busker[s viper through the debris after, get a grin from the redhead, her mic keying up soon after, "Thanks for that, Busker. never going to say no to thinning the herd."

Luckily for Kell, the Heavy Raider that was painting him with a luck was hit by Addison's autocannon fire and Astraea's missile right as it launched its missile, causing it to lose the lock. The projectile rockets harmlessly away into the depths of space where it will probably hit some random space debris sometime in the far future. For Razor though, this clears him up to swing back towards his wingman, "Nova, Hurricane, thanks for the cover. Coming back to try to clear your tail, Hurricane."

Stirling takes evasive action while loosing a missile at the Heavy Raider. Combined with the fire from others, the raider explodes. Stirling's bird takes a scratch in the process. "Much appreciated, Jigger."

Sweetpea's Viper takes a nasty cockpit hit, and spins out of control, clearly dead in the water. Whether Sweetpea herself is still alive is debateable - there's nothing on comms at least. "Wasp - contact Galactica and have them send a SAR to pick up Sweetpea," Stirling says.

The problem with shooting Heavy's is their little brothers tend to shoot back, one of them clipping Addison as he zeroes in and rips into the Heavy. The shots plunk deeply into the body of his viper and a glance is cast over his readings before he spins away and flips the coms over with a rather over the top yawn. "Team, scratch one Heavy. I think I hit a space duck or something, got some body damage on the Viper."

KEW fire streaks past Alain's nose, but he turns sharply to avoid it, trying to keep a firing solution on one of the raiders now dogging Stirling. He manages to land a hit, but it isn't enough to completely damage it. A quick check on DRADIS earns an exhale as he sees the heavies marked down, except -- "Sweetpea? Frak." The latter cursed into the safety of his cockpit, along with a muttered prayer as Whisper calls for SAR. His fingers clench as he brings his viper around to take another shot on the raider.

"If I've learned anything being your bunkmate, Cherry? It's that you're a girl who only needs help when she asks for it." The smile is echoed by Micah, his fingers switching silently from mic controls to combat controls. A visual glance down at his readouts affirms that expression of quiet delight. "Soundbite? How are you fairing?"

She's focused on ensuring that the hit to the Heavy on Kell goes through, but Nova does see that Sweetpea has been hit. Stirling manages to report it before she does, though, but the Scorpian pilot does murmur a prayer off-comms. She takes a breath, adjusting trajectory but not slowing. "Razor, Nova- copy. Sing out if ya get targeted again."

Calliope manages to avoid toaster attention for the moment, flying defense for her Viper escorts. Her Raptor keeps its electronic jamming net spread wide, and she can't suppress a sigh of relief when both Eva and Micah make it through the initial firestorm unscathed. "Busker, Soundbite. I'm good! Paint's not scratched, nuke is still reading stable."

Lights change color and wink out all over the display in Ines' cockpit: good news, as novel as that is. It's one thing to know the Wolves are good, to hear that, to see it on a small scale...and another thing entirely to be there as they punch a flight-sized hole through a solid wall of resistance.
Her own fire achieves far less, nicking her target, but she stays on-course and on-target.

Not today, toasters. Not today. Irene waits until she has a missile lock on the heavy, using Faye's distraction to give her the opening she needs. When it launches she breaks, flipping the raptor and burning off in an almost random direction which completely confuses the programming on the other raider. It fires off into space and whips by while the heavy is vaporized by two hits. She's quiet, quickly assessing, and spotting a sneaky raider going for the CAG she angles in on it, determined.

The Vipers and Raptors punch through the first wave of defenders. A few try to continue pursuit, but they're quickly jumped on by the other squadrons covering the Wolves. As they continue on towards the shipyards, one of the Cylon capital ships - a cutter equivalent, it looks like - moves to intercept them. Stirling says, "Whisper, Flight. Break bearing 142. Evade those turrets. Dauntless is coming up to give that ship something else to think about."
Once they are past the first way, Kell quickly disengages instead of chasing the Raider that he grazed that was on Addison's tail. A quick glance over the shoulder at the Cylons they are leaving behind, the Libran quickly switches his gaze to the enemy capital ship that is approaching, adjusting his heading though still staying in formation with Nova's Raptor. No acknowledgement was sent over the comms by Razor, feeling that none was needed at this time.

Faye yanks back on the stick, hitting the rudder and with a snap shot, tags the Raider in the cockpit. Her own Viper took something like a grazing hit, a little buff and elbow grease will take that out when they get back on the deck. "Whisper, Bingo, Roger that." And she pulls the Viper back around, none-too-gently and presses the throttle up to the stops to get back on Irene's wing.

This time, Alain scores a solid hit on the raider's cockpit, his KEW fire practically shredding the thing before it can get a solid hit on Stirling's raptor. No time for a victory whoop though -- almost immediately he's dodging more fire from that incoming raider, his hands reflexively jerking over the controls to spin around and return fire... but they have a mission. It's always hard for him to leave untouched targets behind, but Stirling's voice has him spinning around and burning hard, coming up alongside her raptor, sliding in between her ship and the approaching cylon capital ship to try and provide cover.

This second pass, complete with more spinning and less is far less successful than the first. But the fact that they've made it through more of less intact? And that the mission seems to be proceeding as planned? Perhaps that IS some form of success. At least one Eva will take as she settles back in to bracket Soundbite.

The second missile under Nova's wing is off and away. No, no need for communication. She and Razor have flown together for how long? Long enough for her to understand. She just falls in line. Angles her Raptor in continued formation with his Viper to work in concert to take out the Vipers on Hurricane's tail. The missile slams home on the Raider's cannon array, tearing through it and causing a chain reaction through the rest of the Cylon craft. "Splash," is all she has to offer over comms. "Copy, Whisper," is what follows for their orders as she tightens into formation, heading to the ascribed mark and noting on DRADIS the flak cannons.

Calliope goes into an evasive pattern, turning her stick sharp to break on Stirling's order. Eyes swiveling to track the motions outside her ship, so she can stay in sync with Eva and Micah. Deep breath, as they break through those waves of ships. Intact, but this is far from over, and that nuclear-induced tension remains in her spine as she flies.

Busker makes it out of the second pass without scratched paint. His KEW fire finds it's mark but, unfortunately, it seems that the Cylons know how to maneuver today. A glance goes up to mark Cherry's position as careful hands guide that roaring Viper back into position. "Busker copies, Whisper."

Ines' helmeted head is roll-snapped over to the side slightly as her Viper takes a hit, but it changes absolutely nothing about her expression, as though it were turbulence. As though it had never even happened at all. She'd doubtless keep going with her attempts if not for the call that goes out. She checks DRADIS, reforms with Team Sparkle Pony (which is what they are, though should would Seriously Object to that if asked), and shifts a little in her seat, resituating and refocusing on the next objective.

Irene's missile hits the raider pursuing Whisper's raptor and staggers it, a secondary explosion an instant later sends it spinning, kew fire blazing wildly, but harmlessly before it fully disintegrates. It's almost a little mesmerizing. A gruff warning from Wooley and Stirling's words snap her attention back to the task at hand, "Iris copies. You're clear sir." Bearing 142. She forms back up with Bingo and Kes as soon as she can, checking them both over for damage as she does. Now for the fun part!

Addison has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Batt1)

There's a hail of fire as the wing tries to duck 'under' the capital ship, evading fire. They take some hits, but soon the Cylon cap ship has bigger fish to worry about as it comes under fire itself. There's another wave of Raiders approaching though.

Addison spends a luck point and is back in the fight!

The incoming fire is heavy, streaming all around them. No one ever wants to be the fish in a barrel. But they have a mission, and the mission is get the raptors to deliver the payload, and so when the capital ship gets in range, Alain is there, interposing his admittedly tiny viper between the incoming fire and the raptors. One missile comes angling directly for him, and he burns hard away from the rest of the squadron before he turns and burns sharply, losing its lock on him before settling back on Whisper's side, thankful prayers to Ares being uttered meanwhile.

Calliope takes one on the paint, her ship rocking as its hit by turret fire, but she stays on course and manages to weave around the worst of the flak fire. Her ECO reports the damage as superficial, albeit with a touch of frustration in his voice. Their electronics were not quite so effective against the turrets as they were in the skirmish with the Raiders. "Flight, Soundbite. Took one on the chin, but I'm totally OK. Weps reading are still green and steady." She continues to fly in tight evasive patterns as she picks up a couple of tails.

Even if his Viper were in a bad condition, Addison would never admit to it. The fact that the Viper should be in multiple pieces floating in space is irrelevent to the man. In his mind, it's always been worse. The missile hit, a bad one, has left the Viper with next to nothing going on but the Pilot continues to press on even as the left console goes dark. Never needed it anyway.

"And it looks like you may have a couple of dates to prom, Soundbite. I'll see if I can give one something else to think about. Cherry? You thinking what I am?" Again, that brilliant Caprican accent flows through the radio channel as Micah's fingers land on the comms triggers rather than the more exiting ones. He'd gotten around the ship unscathed. His thrusters flare as he moves a bit forward, intent on heading off some of the incoming raiders.

"To be fair, have you seen Soundbite in a dress? I have." She's just saying. But Cherry, following Micah's lead, moves in to intercept the two raiders who seem to be bearing down on Calliope's position, moving to place her KEW fire as well as her ship between the raiders and the raptor.

Stirling takes evasive action on the way past. With her missiles empty, she's in defense mode now - heading towards the shipyards while her ECO suppresses some targets.

"Flight, Iris. All green." Irene reports, after a quick conference with Wooley after their run through the gauntlet. She heard a hit, but whatever it was must have just bounced off the armor since the indicators are all reporting no imminent destruction and her ECO isn't panicking. All good. "Kestrel, Bingo, I'm going to bully straight through this fighter screen. I'm out of missiles."

It's a harrowing stretch of time, passing close to that much firepower. A rainfall of it, zipping through vacuum, stitched through the matrix of fighters and raptors. It's not that long in reality, but it feels long. Long enough that another wave of targets feels like a return to something like normalcy, which -- thinking about it, that is a really twisted metric for normal. Welcome to life in with the Wolves, indeed.
"Iris, Bingo, Kes. We've got you covered, Iris." Yeah, there's a raider on her tail, but she's not carrying a nuke.

Just gotta get through the cluster... Just get through the cluster. Yeah. Faye breaths a bit faster as she keeps her hand light on the stick and tries to juke her way through the mass of fire. Her breathing take on amore fevered level until - finally - they're through it and her breathing slow back down just in time to see the next slew of Riaders. "Iris, Bingo, Roger that. I'm gonna try and clear one of these off me - Kes, I'm counting on you."

The Raptor is flying too erratically through for Astraea's poor, fresh-faced Ensign to be able to get a decent lock on the batteries. The poor lad, he tries. "Sir," Nova flinches, but she is a jig to his Ens, "I couldn't-" and Addison is getting his hard. Frak! "Hurricane, do you copy?" But he's still flying. Right? She brings her Raptor closer to his, sans missiles now anyway, trying to get a view of the Viper pilot to make sure he's still kickin'.

Her first run doesn't net her a solid hit on her raider, but if it keeps the thing from being able to sight the raptor, then Cherry's work has been done. All that leave now, is to spin clear of the debris cloud Micah seems to be gathering in his wake, and coming back around to try to finish off the target. "Coming around for another shot."

"Cherry, Busker, Soundbite. I can /rock/ the formal wear, let me tell you," Calliope says with a chuckle. Keeping it light over the comms, while her handling of her stick stays /deadly/ serious. Meanwhile, in her backseat, her ECO works double-time on his ECM console. Because getting blown up with a nuke aboard would /not/ be healthy for anyone. They manage to make it through the KEW barrage without anymore dents in their nose, as her Viper escorts to go work on those Raiders.

Hurricane's cockpit is dimly lit, several of the consoles having gone out and the pilot himself is struggling to keep the Viper even remotely on a steady course as it continues to want to careen various headings. Spotting a shot to take on a Raider, he pulls the trigger only to hear several alert klaxon's in his ears ringing about weapon jamming.

"Good copy, Cherry. And I've got another one over here looking at you. I'll head it off." Micah's viper alters course only a little, crossing just under Eva to come up on her other side. He aims at another incoming raider, laughing quietly at the voice coming over the comms. "Can you rock it a little less, Soundbite? We're literally having to beat the boys off with a stick."

Alain takes a slow breath -- to calm his pounding heart after the debatable thrill of running the gauntlet of a capital ship -- before he focuses on the incoming raiders. None of them seem to be focusing on Whisper, so he tags onto one after another viper. Almost immediately it turns on him, and they exchange fire, both evading the other's shots as they pass by.

With his wingman's Viper pretty badly damaged, Kell is trying to focus on the Raider that is chasing Addison while still being wary of the one that is on his tail. With his first salvo of autocannon fire just glancing off of the tail section of the Cylon Raider, Razor pushes his engines to a faster speed and gets closer, less juking. He appears to be gambling, trusting Astraea's ECO to continue the jamming while he goes in for a higher risk shot.

Faye looks over, toward Kestrel for a moment, then it's back forward where she takes a deep breath. As she lets it out she pushes down on the stick, hits the rudder to one side, then the other, and yanks up and over to angle in on one of the Raiders on her. She lets out a string of shots with her kews right into the main part of the Raider, it takes the hit and explodes with a hail of shrapnel. The yank around was to put her in line with the one Ines is... Oh. Holy Frak. A grin and Bingo keeps pulling the viper around trying to get a shot on the one going after Kestrel now. "Kestrel, Bingo, break left, gimme a shot on your tagalong."

Irene bullies straight on through, just as she said she was going to. Her raptor's bigger and more solid than those raiders, so she's not shy about sticking her elbows out and wading into the tangle. Only one of them tries to light up her bus, but she burns straight over at speed, the kew fire passing behind her with yards to spare. Out of the blue, she guesses, "Priest?" No reply from Wooley. Then again, he's working the ECM.

I'm counting on you, Faye says, and a little trickle of icewater slides down the shallow dip of Ines' spine, zen calm or no. Doesn't she watch movies? Read books? Consume media? Doesn't she know what's supposed to happen when someone says something like that? It's tantamount to 'at least things can't get any worse' on a sliding scale of ways to provoke fate!
Maybe that thought puts the pressure on. Maybe it's the thought of the entire flight being evaporated in a nuclear explosion. Whatever the reason, this time her target's cockpit winds up punched full of holes.
There's no overt celebration, but she sounds pleased over comms anyway when she says, "Bingo, Kes. You got it."

Stirling is quiet on the comms, watching the progress of the dogfight. After helping out with some suppression, she ventures in on an angle that should give her ECO a shot at one of the raiders, as they continue towards the shipyards.

Getting a good view of Addison's cockpit, Astraea swears. She was going to switch to more athletic flying so her ECO could take over the KEW, but she has to hit the comms first: "Whisper, Nova... Hurricane's badly damaged. I don't think he's got any systems active." She tries to signal the man's attention to wave him back if she can. For the moment? She's trying to run interference if any Raiders opt to target him, since it's especially dangerous as he's already been hit by a missile.

The shipyards loom closer, and their point defense guns start opening fire as well. "Flight, Whisper. Vipers - keep on those Raiders. Raptors, prepare for bombing run." The CAG herself starts her attack run.
Second time seems to be the charm, as Eva manages to clear that final raider that was targeting her raptor buddy. A quick bank avoids the majority of the flak, before she swings wide to assess the damage and the remaining targets. "Don't worry about us, Soundbite. We'll buy you the time. Go take care of business."

Calliope allows herself a moment of relief as the last of her tailing Raiders is cleared by the Vipers. Just a second. This isn't over yet. "Whisper, Soundbite. Acknowledged. Prepping payload and zeroing course in on the target zone." To her Vipers, "Cherry, Busker, got it. You guys have been /tight/ tonight. I'll see if I can do you proud the rest of the way."

"Busker copies. Soundbite? Bring the kids to church for us." That earns a grin from the blonde Caprican. His viper turns to the side, reeling a short arc to target the raider he had just peppered.

This time, Alain's whoop makes it out across the wireless after his attack sees the raider twirling harmlessly into space away from the squadron, little more than a twisted wreck. "Flight, Jigger. Give them hell, raptors. We're watching your back." And he gives a last glance at the departing ships before he spins his viper to take on one of the raiders that zooms past him.

Another burst of autocannon rounds is fired at the Raider from Kell's Viper, this time slightly more effective but not anywhere close to taking it down. Razor does keep at it, even as he hears that the Raptors are starting their deliveries of the nuclear packages. He does glance over to make sure no Raiders are chasing after the Raptors before focusing back on the Cylon that is chasing Addison.

Fancy flying, by design. Ines throttles to keep her pursuer's attention, then banks on the required angle, and by the time she turns her head to look back over one shoulder all she can see are the pieces of the raider Faye's just dismantled. Even emptied out, the way she gets when the pressure is high, she can't help the little smile that follows.
Pale eyes seek the raptors, following the breakaway, and though she's not the praying type she thinks something like a prayer, anyway, before turning to check DRADIS. She's in a solid position to distract Faye's hanger-on as she gets back into position. "Bingo, Whisper -- Kestrel. I'll try to widen your opening."
Yeah, she's REALLY focused on what she's doing, obviously, because -- phrasing??

Teamwork, that's how this works! As the tracers are flying over her cockpit she waits to see the target line up in her sights. Faye pushes out the other distractions, and lines up where she expects Ines will be. Right after she sees Ines pass by, she triggers the kews. Her shots lace through the Raider's middle - dusting it off of Kestrel as Bingo gives a yank back on her stick. "Kes, Bingo, clear. Get this one off me if you please!" She's hitting the rudder and slewing the Viper from side-to-side to make herself a hard target to go after.

Irene's too ultra focused to offer up a funny quip. She doesn't even hazard another guess in regard to Wooley's mysterious former profession. It's all quiet in the raptor, save what little they need to say to each other, to determine if the nuke is armed and the boat is still operable enough to deliver it. Everything checks out, so leans into her straps to get a visual on her wingmates before she breaks to join the rest of the raptors, "Whisper, Iris. Ready for bombing run."

The Raptors launch their nukes, and the point defense guns on the shipyards open fire, trying to shoot down the missiles before they strike. Irene's missile is destroyed, but the three others strike solidly, doing significant damage to the structure. "Good shooting, Flight. Now let's clear out of here. Clear to engage as you fall back."
With the raptors moving off to complete their run, and with Stirling's orders clear, Eva set to work clearing the final raiders. She and Micah manage to eliminate one of the raiders under their combined fire, before there's only a single ship remaining, which she promptly turns to engage. "We're almost finished over here, Soundbite, be with you in a mo." And so they are, as the raptors complete their mission and the wing turns to return to the Dauntless. Of course, there's still a frak-ton of cylons to get through.

"Hm." Micah doesn't cue the comms after he and Eva blast through their target. He does when he turns, though, seeing the assembled masses of Cylon raiders standing between them and the Dauntless. "Cherry, Soundbite, Busker. Yeah. It's like an awful gift exchange out here. Cherry? I'm taking the one that has eyes for me. I'll be with you in a moment." And as his thrusters glow brighter, his fingers find the trigger of his KEW cannons.

Calliope isn't a prayer, but she /wills/ her payload to drop with all delibate BOOM as she looses it from her Raptor. And she finally allows herself to relax, a very little, once it's away. "Whisper, Soundbite. Copy that. Setting course back to the barn." Her ship moves around in a slow arc, then she puts the throttle down to apply some speed to reform with her Vipers. "Cherry, Busker, I am /so/ ready for the last song of this dance."

"Kes, Bingo, is that Raider still back there?" Faye turns her head one way, and then the other, trying to see when -- and there's a new wave of Raiders. "Frak it!" She says off comms, keeping herself light on the rudder pedals as she angles in toward the merge. She picks the one that seems to be angling in toward members of her flight. Another fast glance over her shoulder. "Ugh, rock and a hard place." Faye mutters but doesn't transmit.

Another whooping yell signals another toaster down, Alain turning the viper around practically lazily in the aftermath. It's only when he hears the report from Whisper that he exhales a breath, muttering thanks to Ares. "Great work, team!" he calls to the raptor team, sounding pleased. "Let's clear a path home for them." He burns hard to intercept the raiders coming in on them, before they can reach the returning raptors.

"Razor, Nova- take care of 'Cane. I'm off to storm th' castle." And with that, Astraea kicks in the speed. Despite her ECO's successful jamming of some of the turrets, one heavily rocks her Raptor. Fortunately, her payload remains intact. She grits her teeth, holding tight to the controls as she angles towards the target. Vectors are verified and the nuke released. Thankfully, the return fire doesn't halt the payload and the resulting explosion? Well, it's pretty. She lets out a whoop on the return, looping back. "Alright, kid," he is an Ensign. "Get some suppression in an' then yer gonna hop on that gun." Because she wants to light some shit up.

With more Raiders scrambling to defend their now heavily damaged shipyard, Kell is forced to break off from the Raider that was chasing Addison, the area getting very cluttered with friendly and hostile forces. Not wanting to risk collision with friendly or foe, the Libran notices one of the Cylons angling towards him so he chooses to go for a quick head-on pass, giving his twin autocannons a small window to try to tag the target.

There's a Raider chasing him? Addison would only know it from the times tracer fire darts across the front of his cockpit, the loss of radar having put a severe damper on his ability to know these things. The calm talking that he does is definitely laced with curses and the wrecked Viper fortunately can't broadcast the diatribe.

Well, it was a beautiful run, and a lovely launch, but Irene watches with dismay as her nuke sails directly into fire and is destroyed short of its target. "Oh, frak you." She mutter to herself before acknowledging the withdrawal and turning back. Wooley abandons the ecm suite in favor of the gun, and he can work out some of her frustration for her by shooting every damn thing in their wake.

Stirling's rear gunner gets a lucky shot on one of the Raiders they're passing, continuing to dodge even as the flak turrets from the shipyards get a couple hits in.

It takes more than a couple nukes to obliterate a structure the size of these shipyards, but it's clear that the Colonials have done significant damage. One of the construction wings breaks off, drifting nearby in space. Flame gouts from another area before being extinguished by the black of space. They've definitely struck a blow. But there are still dozens of Cylon capital ships in the area, and this was only intended to be a raid not a protracted boxing match. Their payload delivered, it's time for the Wolves to head for Dauntless, fighting through a screen of Raiders even as missiles and cannons from the capital ships make space deadly around them.

Flying in support of her other other wingman, Eva maneuvers hard and fast, trying to keep the rider from managing to get a hit in on Hurricane's viper. In that, at least, the succeed. between herself and Addison, the manage to hold the raider off long enough for the wing to escape the enemy fighter screen and hit the throttle back to3wards the Dauntless and pick up.

This time, victory is more decisive -- Alain makes a sharp turn and burn at the last minute, sufficing both to avoid the fire of the raider he was dancing with, and return with a solid shot to the body, sending its holed wreck out into the void of space. Another whooping call of joy comes from Jigger as a result, before he settles in on Stirling's side for the flight back home to the safety of the Dauntless.

As instructed, Astraea's ECO finishes suppressing and switches to the KEW. She angles in, adjusting her trajectory so that their cannon lines up with the Raider trailing after Kell. The Ensign is still a bit green, so the tracer just scatter across the body of the Raider. Even so, it helps her wingmate avoid being hit. The Scorpian pilot, herself, jukes and evades the fire from the turret and just receives a bit of graze fire in turn. As the wing pulls away from the fray, she pulls in nearer to Hurricane's Viper, trying to get a view of the pilot within again in concern. "Cane, Nova," she tries again, even though she suspects his coms are still down. She'll stick close to his bird the flight back in to the Dauntless.

The rear fire from Calliope's Raptor meets the fire from Stirling's KEW in perfect, toaster-decimating harmony. "Whisper, Soundbite. I think we got that one, sir!" Her rear-gunner will keep pouring out the fire as her bus exits the field.

For the second time this flight, Ines feels her Viper shudder with the impact of incoming fire. She glances down at the display in front of her, then turns her head to look over her shoulder, eyes narrowing. She's about to say something over comms when Faye and Irene slide into view, too, completely unasked. That? Is a good feeling, in spite of the warning sounds she busily mutes, adding the disabling of one of her cannons to the mute list moments later. Her own target dissolves underneath concentrated fire from herself and others in the flight, and while she still has a tail, the priority now is getting out again before the net closes around the hole they've just made. She pours the gas on, but not so much that she gets away from the two she's flying with.

Micah comes out of another cloud of debris, already turning his viper back toward the Dauntless. He takes a quick inventory of his two wing people. Their continued existence earns a relieved sigh and a subdued smile. "Whisper, Busker. RTB copied."

Some how, in some way, Faye managed to get out of that whole mess... without more than some scuffed paint. She closes her eyes for a moment, slowing her breathing as the nukes finish their flight and she pulls back on Irene's wing for the rest of the flight back. She looks over, and sure enough there's Ines too. She gives a wiggle of the wings to Iris, a little drift toward Ines and a wiggle of the wings to her. Not to mention a big thumbs up! The pilots of Charisma bunk strike again.
"Iris, Bingo, was he a professional massage therapist?"

Irene isn't at all concerned with Wooley throwing silent hate and bullets out the tail of the raptor. Live and let shoot stuff. She concentrates on flying, which gets slightly more difficult when her luck gets a bit thin and a shot from one of the defending turrets strikes more than a glancing blow to the front of the bus. The left side of the cockpit glass spiderwebs and the instrument panel on that side is rocked off its setting with the impact. Not so good. She breaks hard to avoid a follow up hit, searches the sky for her viper friends and rejoins them. "Bingo, Iris. I'll ask him when we get back. How are you both?"

It's the first time Ines has chimed in on this little game they're playing, though she's listened to it plenty. She's still subdued, so what she actually says doesn't sound like she's kidding, actually: "Bingo, Iris, Kes. If the answer is yes, can you get me in?"
That probably means she's fine.

Once the final run of guns and evading return fire is done, they're in the clear and back in formation. After a bit of quiet -- likely ensuring Hurricane will actually make it back to the barn -- Astraea hits the comms. "Razor, Nova." She hesitates only a little. "See ya in th' Ready Room to go over footage later?"

"Kes, Iris, Bingo. No fair! That's why I was hoping too." Faye looks over her gauges, flicks the reserves, checks the ammunition count, and adds, "All good here. Need paint." Faye pulls the fighter up, rolling it over to check the other side of the Raptor as she gives a whistle off of the comm. She noticed the heavier damage on the other side of the Raptor now.

Once they clear the engagement zone, Kell checks the systems of his Viper, making sure that he didn't suffer any damage that he didn't notice. Hearing Astraea's question, there is a quick response to that, "Nova, Razor, not this time. I have other business I need to tend to." Other concerns that are apparently greater on the priority list than reviewing tapes for Razor? Interesting.
