It's after dark, and the winter night is cold enough that their breath fogs in the air as the squad moves through the forest. Their winter camo gear helps some, but it's still cold. There's an inch of snow on the ground. They're on the mainland, near the front lines, having arrived after a short hop skip and jump via Raptor. The Picon forces in the area have reported recent probes by small Cylon squads, perhaps in preparation for an assault. The Wolves have been sent to help patrol the area.

There was a time, when Abigail Walker thought that the sound of a jaunt to Aquaria, post Cylon invasion, of course, would have been a fun little jaunt, you know, because everyone who's never lived in cold weather thinks it must be a ton of fun. Alas, the dear, sweet fool. Which leads us to our current situation, where the combat engineer is walking about as close to the center of the group as she can, fiddling with the heating pads she's tucked into her uniform, and trying not to let the sound of her teeth chattering be louder than her footsteps.

The heavier layers that Aleksander is wearing takes some getting use to, he has done training in such but certainly not the same as the warmer climates he usually serves in. With his assault rifle slung on his right shoulder, his hands are cupped together in front of his mouth as he tries to keep it warm by blowing on it from time to time. It's almost to the point where the Tauran is about to pull out his pack of smokes to help him stay warm.

For all that Gage complained constantly about the Sagittaron heat, it seems he's not a huge fan of the freezing cold, either -- go figure. "Think my nuts are going to drop off soon," he's muttering to whoever's unlucky enough to be in range to listen. He thuds about, less worried about getting noticed than body pieces falling off right now.

This feels like home for Lyn, save for there only being an inch of snow. The Sergeant is wrapped up in the cold weather bomber jacket and gear, without all the extras the warmer blooded soldiers are using. She keeps the muzzle of her carbine pointed down to keep any wintery stuff out of the barrel. The scout scans the field of white for tracks that aren't boot prints as the patrol makes its way through the area. "Make sure you clean your guns really well after we get back. Cold is rough on them."

Geoff doesn't like the cold. Geoff likes the beach. Geoff likes being drunk on the beach. Being on a patrol in the could is just about the opposite of that. So he's not in a good mood. But when his he ever chatty and chipper on a patrol?

Mercer snorts lightly at Gage's remark but doesn't comment upon it. His eyes are intent on the trees ahead of them, scanning.

Gage rolls Alertness: Good Success (8 8 7 5 5 4 4)

Back to Picon. And back to Picon right after Charlie got some hella disturbing family news. It's been some weird times. And they're in the hemisphere that she isn't as fond of. Where's the sun? The beaches? The sniper is as bundled up as she can manage and still pretty damn grouchy about the whole matter. She's in the rear of formation and not even because she's watching their asses: it's because every so often she stops just to curse at length about how frakkin' cold she is. In answer to Gage? "Yeah, well mine already did." Ignore the fact that she never had them to begin with.

It's not so different from some parts of Sagittaron, stupid hot when the sun's up, near frozen when it's down. Maybe that's why Akeso doesn't seem to be so badly off, but she does have some minor complaint about "merde blanc" when she has slip step on a snow greased stone. Otherwise, she's chill and chilly, scanning the horizon and never staring in one place for long. She's paying so much attention to the near distance that she nearly walks over the back of Alek's heel but she catches herself and looks at him crossly, as if it was his fault for either slowing down too much or not magically sensing her about to give him a flat tire.

Hearing Gage's comment, Aleksander can't help but smirk in amusement, shaking his head, "What are the chances of the Cylons' joints freezing up, being unable to move? That'd be like your balls falling off, right?" Then he senses someone creeping up on him, looking over his shoulders instead of his surroundings. Usually he would bark out a complaint but when it comes to combat medics, Davion tries to stay on their good side, since who knows when he will need one preventing him from bleedy out. He does pick up the pace a little, one hand slipping into his pocket as he begins to fish for his pack of cigarettes. At this point, he'd settle for a giant bonfire.

Akeso is the one who sees it first. Tracks. Not human-sized boot prints, but the distinctive blocky pattern of Centurion feet. Heading down into a dry creek-bed that cuts across the forest. No sign of the Cylons themselves though.

With a grunt, Gage responds to Charlie, "Bet Calhoun is real torn up about that," the Tauran mutters. Then: "Hey, Gunny. Think the brass'll pay me compensation for all the cold killing off my maybe one-day-kids? I mean, they could be frakking Gods-damn heroes or something, with my pedigree." He snorts at Aleksander's words. "We should be so lucky. Maybe they don't know about lube or oil."

Lyn looks to Mercer when the prints are pointed out. "Orders, sir?" she asks quietly, checking her rifle and her extra mags to be sure everything is in order.

For her part, Erin is silent. This is in stark contrast to her reputation as a loud-mouthed idiot. She is skulking a few feet off of Charlie's right flank, all by herself, eyes peeled for trouble. Like a good Aquarian, the cold doesn't bother her much -- the ol' callsign was "Chilly," after all -- and she doesn't grouse about it. Her attention is drawn for a moment to Aleksander's and Gage's repartee, to which she does an eyeroll and gives a headshake.

Ah ha. A clue! Akeso stops, and lifts her hand to signal a general hold up a minute here. "Toaster tracks! Davion, pass word up to the Gunny." Because she really doesn't want to be yelling, incase said toasters are nearby. She's cautious like that. The safety on her rifle is flicked to danger setting and she creeps off the line, following the foot prints for a yard or two, far enough to see them head down into the creek-bed.

"Maybe we should bring water guns next time," is Geoff's contribution to the general banter. But then his eyes flick in Mercer's direction. Because Centurion tracks.

Abigail, aside from fidgeting to try to keep warm, and attempting to keep up with the group, doesn't really have much to contribute on the altar of witty banter. Rather, she seems much more focused on the terrain, and occasionally, trying to make sure the snow on the ground doesn't start working it's way into the treads of her boots and making things even more slick than they are already. Between that and occasionally checking her loadout, she doesn't notice the tracks until word starts to filter through the ranks.

There's just a broad grin for Gage beneath those snow-goggles and all Charlie can do is shrug. "Calhoun deals." Hard to keep a sex life secret in close quarters, so might as well joke about it. Especially theirs. The woman checks over her gun again as Akeso makes note of a general hold. Wagner's been pretty fussy over the carbine; concerned over ice getting into the workings of it. Once she's satisfied, she leaves the checking into matters to the Gunny and instead falls back a few steps to turn and lift the weapon to her shoulder: watching their flank.

When the signal to hold goes up, Aleksander pulls his hand out of his pocket, sans cigarette pack. When Akeso has an important update, the Tauran quickly passes the information up the chain towards Mercer which means he's closing the couple of steps up to Gage and putting a hand on the combat engineer's shoulder, "Tomak, pass the word up to the Gunny, Ma found Cylon tracks." His voice is now a low whisper as well. He then unslings his rifle and switches the safety off, getting ready in case company is closer than they thin.

Mercer snorts once more at Gage. "Wear thermal underwear," is the gunny's advice on the matter. He sobers up when the tracks are spotted, moving forward to check them out. "Looks like they're heading, towards the Picon lines." He gets out a map, fumbling a little given his gloves. After examining it for a moment, using a red-capped flashlight for illumination, he points southeast. "Frakkers can't be too far ahead. If they'd hit the lines already, we'd have heard. This creek curves round to the southeast. If we head that way, we oughta be able to intercept." He points in the desired direction. "Hayes, take point."

Snapping his fingers, even grinning, Gage gives Geoff an approving nod. "Courtois has the right idea." And then he's grimacing, because Mercer is being practical. He hears Akeso's faint words from behind, slowing when Aleksander's hand settles on his shoulder, giving a sharp nod as he falls silent. He hoofs it ahead a few passes to pass the word up the line, before he lifts his rifle to begin scanning the surrounding trees. He doesn't bother looking at the tracks -- he's no scout -- instead watching for threats. "Copy that, Gunny," he mutters quietly, as he falls into line.

Oh sure. Send the raccoon out in front. See if it gets gibbed by frag grenades and land mines.

Erin bobs her head in acknowledgment, and then scrambles out forward, relatively quietly. She does one more visual check over her gear before she sets off in the direction indicated, eyes open for the tracks that have been reported, as well as the glint of metal that usually signals an impending ambush.

Not that she's wandered into a few of those before, no. Just good sense, really.

Geoff glances Gage's way. For whatever reason, the two Gs seem to get along all right. He doesn't say anything, though, falling into formation as orders are given and things get serious.

Lyn nods to Mercer and she falls in, eyes peeled to their flank in case it's an ambush. The frakkers have been getting smarter.

With Hayes sent fore, Charlie remains aft- as it were. The woman seems content to stay put there because it means no scurrying. The Aquarians are better for that in this cold anyway. So she keeps rifle tucked to her shoulder, back to those she knows she can trusts, and watches the cold land behind them as she slowly tracks her way backward.

Aleksander rolls Alertness: Great Success (8 8 7 7 7 6 5 2)

Gage rolls Alertness: Good Success (8 8 7 6 5 3 1)

Geoff rolls Alertness: Success (7 5 4 3 2 1)

Akeso posts herself at the top of the path, watching and waiting. She doesn't move again until Hayes slips by to trigger all the ambushes or step on a mine. She gets a mildly encouraging flat smile from the medic and a long look, as though she's trying to remember how Erin's put together now incase she has to attempt a reassembly in the very near future. When the rest of the formation moves, she falls in about where she was, near Aleksander. She's still chill and chilly, but a little keyed up, ready for the chaos to come.

Akeso rolls Alertness: Success (8 7 5 5 4 3 2)

When the Gunny gives out the instructions after studying the area map, Aleksander looks towards the southeast and waits for the group to start moving out. He seems content sticking with the middle of the squad, letting the scouts take point or bring up the rear. The Tauran is just an extra pair of hands, extra armor, and extra firepower. There is no more chatter coming from Davion though, apparently having some sort of 'serious mode' when the situation calls for it.

Abigail rolls Alertness: Success (8 6 5 4 3 2 1 1)

Erin rolls Stealth: Great Success (7 7 7 6 6 4 4 3 1 1)

Erin rolls Alertness: Great Success (7 7 7 7 6 5 4 3 2)

Quiet now, and careful, as Abigail sees the team begin to movve into a more recon formation, allowing herself to fall back closer to the rear of the group. Her weapon she checks and rechecks, but there's not much that she seems to be able to offer, as she's not spotted anything more, and indeed a whole lot less than the rest of the group.

Lyn rolls Alertness: Amazing Success (8 8 8 8 7 6 6 3 2 1)

Charlie rolls Alertness-2: Success (8 7 4 4 4 4 4 2)

The squad moves out. Gunny gets on his longer-distance radio to relay what they've found to command, so it can be passed on to the relevant Picon forces. Soon enough, though, Erin is coming up to a little ridge, which gives her a good view. She can see five Centurions shuffling along in the stream bed, using the natural depression as cover as they prepare to assault the Picon positions beyond. Assuming the word is relayed back to Gunny, he uses hand signals and whispers to instruct the squad to spread out and take up positions along the ridge. "Wait for my signal, then open fire."
Geoff heaves a silent sigh as he goes to take his position behind as much cover as he can muster. But he doesn't say a word.

Trash Panda or not, Erin takes her role as scout pretty seriously. She radios back to Gunny nice and quiet like, and then slinks into a good position to fire from, towards the right flank of the line. She lays herself down, sets her elbows in place, and then lines up her first shot along her rifle: probably to the head of the column itself. Waiting.

Lyn gets into position along the ridge, going down on one knee and leveling her rifle at the enemy. She looks worried at the small group of Cylons. That's an awful small group to send in for an assault on the Picon lines.

Akeso makes friends with the most solid looking tree she can find on the ridge, slipping in quiet as she can behind it and taking a knee. After a check on everyone else's progress and final positions so she knows where to go if people start yelling for her services, she settles in and takes aim down the sights of her rifle. Waiting for signal. Waiting for fireworks.

Gage, for his part, gives a brief grin. Nothing gets the blood pumping -- and warms freezing balls, apparently -- like a good ambush. He moves alongside -- below the ridge -- only edging up when he's gotten a little distance, crawling up on his belly to the ridge-line behind a tree, settling in to wait for the signal, glancing briefly towards Akeso off to the left of him.

"Sir, there's a sixth Cylon out there. Up on the little rise on the side. It's all white, to blend in with the snow," Lyn reports over the comm quietly. "Bigger rifle. Might be a sniper."

Moving into position quietly, Aleksander finds appropriate cover not only to try to keep himself hidden from view until the orders to open fire is given, but to also give himself some natural protection on the upcoming firefight. Taking aim at one of the five Centurions that are slowly on the move, the Tauran has his finger on the trigger, just waiting for the signal, ready to fire off a burst. When Lyn provides the extra information about a hidden Cylon, Davion glances in that direction as well, glad that she was able to point it out to the group.

When the order coms to spread out, Charlie shifts from tailgunner to firing line. She moves swiftly along the ridge to a promising-looking boulder. It might last longer than a tree- or so she hopes. The woman takes a knee and checks over her own gear, patting down and checking for backup munitions. She settles a shoulder against the rock and grunts when Lyn's report comes over comms. Figures. "I'll see what I can do about it," the woman answers back over the comms. She may not have her full setup, but maybe she can do something. "Give coords."

"Copy that Arda," Mercer acknowledges Lyn's report in a soft murmur over the radio. "Probably trying to draw out the troops with the sniper than ambush them. You and Wagner focus on the sniper, we'll hit the rest." He gives Charlie a chance to move into position, while everyone lines up their shots.

Once they've finally settled into position, and, sadly, it seems that her primary source of damage is not going to be immediately useful, Abigail settles for advancing to the closest position she can get to the grouping, without moving out ahead of the rest of the team. if the cylons should move back in their direction, that might work to her advantage. Once settled, she reaches up, touching the center of her chest, just above the breastbone, before she settles on a target.

Since she's already picked her target and taken position, Erin just waits for the order. It's so nice to be able to hit Centurions when they aren't looking at you. No need to feel dishonorable about hitting them hard from behind either. Damned robots.

Cent2 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Abigail, Geoff)

Cent4 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Aleksander)

The command is given. BRAKKA BRAKKA BRAKKA. Erin opens up with a three-round burst at the lead centurion. The barrage of fire from her and a couple of others doesn't take down the target, which apparently takes cover after. Well, so much for the easy kill: now for the protracted firefight from covered positions.

Unless you're assigned a specific target, you never really know who's going to be shooting along with you at the same toaster, but when Abigail's shot hits so true, Geoff's burst is enough to finish off the centurion they both picked, and Geoff nods in satisfaction as it goes down right away, quickly switching his aim to a new target.

Lyn settles in and she takes careful aim at the white-clad Cylon. It's like a nightmare come to life. The ones they could SEE on Aquaria were enough to take the planet. If they'd had this paint job back then, no one may have gotten offworld at all.

A grunt of disappointment comes from Gage as some of his bullets impact -- but largely ping off rather than piece the Centurion's metal. It's time for the gum -- that always makes things better -- finger dipping into his vest pocket to simultaneously scoop it out and shove it into his mouth, adjusting his aim as the centurion takes cover.

Clearly, the woman has either been practicing, or she simply had a whole hell of a lot of incentive to get the frak back to somewhere warm, because Abigail's hot hits FAR more true than she normally tends to manage. A glance over, as she catches sight of a movement, and she offers Geoff the briefest tip of her head, before she sights a second target.

Once the order is given, Aleksander brushes the trigger to his assault rifle and it fires out three rounds in quick succession. Two of the three bullets slam into the Centurion he was targeting, managing to punch through the plate armor and into the Cylon's midsection. Though the damage does not look rather devastating but it seems the rounds hit something critical inside as the toaster stalls and then falls over, out of commission. One down. Then the Tauran is looking back in the direction of the sniper and begins providing distracting fire.

Even before the order comes down, Charlie is situating herself against that rock and pulling a scope from a pocket on her chest and affixing it to her rifle. She knows what she's supposed to do. Her job isn't just taking out a pea at fifty yards. It's taking down the assholes on the other team who do the same godsdamned thing. She studies for this. Trains for it. Got shot in the frakkin head when she failed to get it right. Not again. Spectre's breath clouds the air as she takes aim, zeroing in on the location as her brethren bring down hell around her. She focuses. Prepares. Slowly her finger moves towards the trigger. If only it were Sasha in her arms...

Mercer gives the signal and then opens fire, his own burst doing little more than scratching the paint on one of the Centurions. He hunkers down a little in the light snow in anticipation of the return fire, and takes aim again.

Akeso takes careful aim and squeezes off a shot meant to brain one of the centurions, but while close enough to tussle it's chrome dome, it doesn't connect. At least she earned the coveted 'I tried' award. She turns the nozzle to spray after that and opens up on the one that just narrowly avoided a canoe shaped crease in its head, keeping calm and unflustered, which is easy to do when they aren't yet shooting back.

Aleksander distracts Sniper successfully.

Cent1 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Gage, Geoff)

Ah, there's her usual shooting efficiency. But you know, you have to give a girl credit for trying. Not a word escapes her lips, no curse of self-recrimination. She simply makes one more attempt to take out the target she's selected for her current obsession.

Rat-a-tat-tat-tat, boom, another one down. For once, they are falling when they should. At least from the perspective down the sights of Geoff's rifle, anyway. He hardly realizes he got clipped by an impact on the upper chest close to the arm. The armor takes so much of the force and the adrenaline is pumping so hard.

With the lead Centurion out, Erin turns her focus to the next down the line. Methodically. Coincidentally, of course, this is the same toaster that's just been shooting at her. And that simply cannot remain the case.

Lyn growls when her shot skips off the cover the Snow Cylon is behind. She shakes it off and tries again, this time changing to burst fire.

No dice. She can't really blame it. Snipers are hard frakkers to hit. It's what she credits her own survival with. The scars, well... Charlie's finger comes to the side of the trigger as she exhales. "Davion, one degree left, two north." The directions to the rifleman trying to help provide distracting fire are whispered into the mic before Wagner shifts slightly on the rock to adjust her own angle and take fire again.

Now there's a more satisfied grunt from Gage as he makes a tighter grouping that rips through the centurion head at the same time as Geoff's grouping tears through the thing's chest. The grin -- brief as it is -- that he gives the Caprican is nonetheless genuine; he really does enjoy watching them fall. He scans the ground below them, and adjusts his arm to focus on the centurion firing towards their Gunny.

Hunkering down only does so much when you're still exposing yourself enough to fire back, Mercer finds as bullets ding off his helmet and graze the unarmored part of his torso. He doesn't call for a medic though and continues firing.

Firing off a round that thuds in front of the cover that the sniping Centurion was using, Aleksander hears the correction that Charlie offers over the comms and responds with an affirmative, "Copy that, Wagner." A simple rifleman may not understand the degree correction that was provided but it seems like the Tauran knew exactly what the Recon sniper was talking about. After taking in a breath, he releases it slowly and evenly, squeezing the trigger as he does so.

This guy. Akeso is hitting ground, tree, stone, but not metal. Her burst snaps and cracks into the cylon's cover and into the far creek bed. She keeps on firing, eventually its stupid good luck will run out, or hers will. Whichever. The zip of an incoming bullet makes her tuck her chin in, but she stays put and sending rounds out.

Cent5 has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Geoff, Gage, Akeso)

Sniper has been *KO'd* ! (Damaged This Turn By: Lyn, Charlie, Aleksander)

This time, Lyn corrects her aim and fires a trio of shots at the Cylon sniper, one of which smacks in right in the chromium cranium. She dives to the side to evade the enemy's shot a split second later, grinning down in the snow as she whispers, "Boom, headshot."

Well, so much for trying to actually engage the enemy. Abigail shifts her crouch, as there's not much of a stance there,s till focused on the single centurion she can see, though she can hear the rest of the team engaging the other enemy targets. This time, however, she seems to be more concerned with trying to interfere with the centurion's ability to engage with the team.

Another tight grouping -- again focusing around the centurion's head -- has Gage grinning. Seems he's feeling particularly vicious today -- that or he's actually aiming for their chests and the wind's stronger than he thinks. Either way -- another dead centurion earns a pleased grunt, ducking in behind the tree just as another centurion fires in his direction, before leaning out to assess the remaining targets.

The correction that was offered by Charlie seems to have done the trick for Aleksander as his first of three bullets finds its mark spectactularly well, hammering into the chest just as Lyn's sniper shot decapitates it. The Cylon sniper is certainly out of action after that. Looking down at the stream bed, it looks like there is only one toaster left and the Tauran helps provide covering fire for the team.

Another round of fire, and another ineffective volley from Erin. It doesn't seem to annoy or phase her. So long as she's covered, and everyone else is getting their kicks knocking down toasters, she keeps on with her target -- the last standing robot. Another shot lined up, and BANG.

Another target down. Perfect score so far. And/or Geoff just keeps picking the most obvious target and has plenty of help. Doesn't matter, though. That's the whole point of the Marines, teamwork to efficiently make junk out of jumped-up washing machines. New target.

Despite Gage taking the head almost off the cylon, Akeso manages to finally score a winner that puts a nice solid hole in its chest before it finally tips over and dies. That one fully dealt with she swings her rifle a few ticks to the left and finds another centurion in her sights, still up and about down there. She opens fire on it.

Lyn doesn't target the final Centurion, she instead begins scanning the area for reinforcements.

With the sniping cylon down -- no help from her, really -- Charlie checks over her rifle, grousing over ice being no good for weapons. Audible, likely, only by those near her rock. She's off the radio for the moment. The woman leaves the final cylon to the others; trusting in their ability to handle it. Instead, she checks over the carbine on memory and keeps an eye on the overall landscape for more incoming.

Mercer hisses as the Centurions manage to find another gap in his armor. "Motherfrakkers," he mumbles. There's only one left - the same one he's been plugging away at - so he keeps shooting.

Charlie passes.

Gage's placement not nearly as tight as before, the Tauran nevertheless gives a grunt of satisfaction when the toaster falls all the same. He glances down briefly -- a visual assurance that the adrenaline isn't covering up some blood-pumping mortal wound -- before he checks the marines to either side of him for probably the same. He doesn't move from his position yet, waiting for the all-clear. Snipers, at least when they're on the other side, suck.

Geoff looks pretty pleased with himself, though when he glances down he can see where he took a hit without realizing it, touching the broken fibers of his outer layer with his fingertips. Huh. Then he glances up to see if people are breaking cover yet. Or if anyone's bad off.

When everything goes still and quiet, after the last centurion collapses under the onslaught, Akeso cocks her head and looks around. She's obviously waiting for someone to yell medic or trying to spot anyone unable to, but after a visual tally of her squadmates she realizes that everyone looks mostly intact, if not entirely unscathed. Like Gage then, she stays put, keeping the reassuringly solid tree next to her. "Clear." She sounds off.

Seeing the last Centurion goes down, Mercer gets up to one knee, his gun still at the ready. "Anyone hit bad? Tomak, Davion - go make sure those things are down permanently."

As soon as the all clear is given, Abigail rises from the place where she's been crouching, moving slightly away from the group, to try to get a better look at the white-clad cylon. She doesn't just rush out though. She's at least making an effort to try to keep close to cover.

"Just a graze, gunny. Put a rip in my new jacket, dammit," Lyn grouses as she gets up on one knee, still scanning.

When the Gunny volunteers him and his Tauran counterpart to check on the downed toasters, Aleksander leaves his cover as he doesnt' question the order. "Got it Gunny." He looks over to Gage and nods his head at the other Marine, "I'll poke the scrap heaps, cover me in case one is playing dead." Though it will take longer than both of them checking the downed Centurions, it's certainly safer.

"How 'bout you?" Geoff is asking Mercer. "You hit bad?" He does, after all, think he saw something hit.

"I've got eyes on 'em, Gunny," Charlie notes into comms as Tomak and Davion are sent off to check the squad of Centurions they've put down. She even shimmies up onto the rock proper to do so, drawing her attention off and away from the field at large.

Now there's a good end to what started off as a shitty, miserable and cold patrol -- killing all the cylons, then getting the chance for a coup de gras. "Roger that, Gunny," Gage sounds off, already hoofing it off down the ridgeline towards the fallen centurions. <<Why should you get all the fun, brother?>> he's replying to Aleksander as they're descending, though he concedes with a counter-offer a moment later with a grin: <<You poke, but I get two smokes. Three if I have to waste one.>>

Erin clears her throat, and looks to Mercer. She grins crookedly for a moment. "Sir, permission to check out that sniper on the ridge?" She shrugs. "I want to get a closer look at it. Maybe it's got something secret on it we don't know about that helps it remain so sneaky out there, all on its own." Or maybe it has some gear she can snatch up. You know, as a souvenir or something.

<<Frak that! I poke and you get /one/ smoke, three if you have to waste one.>> Aleksander scowls in mock protest as they walk down to the water bed where the Cylons had fallen. His rifle is still at the ready as he heads to the first one that was downed, approaching with some caution instead of carelessness. Instead of stabbing it with the tip of his weapon, he uses his thick, warm boots to give the first one a kick.

Mercer shakes his head to Geoff. "Not bad. Ma - could use a dressing on this." Well, these. Plural. Gunny got nicked a couple times. He nods to Erin. "Check it out."

Circling out to one side, Gage keeps his weapon trained firmly on the cylon that Aleksander is getting real close to. <<Fine,>> he exhales a mutter, all the while keeping his weapon steady, just in case. <<Just hurry the frak up before I lose another nut.>>

Lyn covers Erin from afar, protecting her fellow Fox Force OMGTHEYPROMOTEDUS? member.

Akeso covers the Taurans as they go poke the carcasses, but catches talk of someone being hit and sends a look up and down the line. Her brow goes way up as she gives everyone she can see a second visual exam but it drops when Mercer speaks up. "On the way." She answers, promptly slinging her rifle in favor of her medic bag as she jogs over to the Gunny. There, after a look at the wounds, she wrinkles her nose and comments, "Just some minor leakage. Let's get those plugged."

The sniper model doesn't look all that unusual when they get close enough to inspect it. It's got a longer rifle and a different paint job.

Look, at some point, the brass are going to have to realize that the Wolves' core of scouts are a bunch of macho-wimmen-wid-guns, and that promoting them only gets them closer to having access to MOAR GUNZ. But today is not that day.

With permission, Erin scampers out towards the sniper on the ridge on her lonesome, likely trucking over there so she can start peeling off useful bits and pieces for her own private collection of junk. That, and the fact that the Cylons are starting to use snipers is interesting. And that they are painting themselves to blend into the surroundings.

Anyhow, that 'bot probably has a nifty sniper cannon to examine. Probably some circuits and boards that could be examined by the techs back on the Vanguard. Erin goes about stripping down what she can carry back, after making sure the toaster is down for surgery.

Geoff kneels down and gets out his first aid kit, but he hasn't done anything by the time Akeso runs up, and he yields the ground to her, putting his kit away again. "We got off pretty light," he says.

<<Should'e had the doctors freeze some of your future prospects before joining up, you should've known they were going to send us to places like this. We would either be roasting under the frakking sun or freeze our asses off in winter wonderland.>> Aleksander continues the casual conversation though his eyes are focused on the dead Centurions, at least taking it with some seriousness since his life could be in danger. Each one is checked and they prove to all be lifeless. <<Tomak, I wanna take a look at that frakker that wanted to ambush us with sniper fire.>> It sounds like that was an invitation that Gage was not allowed to turn down because Davion is already trekking his way towards where the Cylon sniper was.

Gage gives a grunt of what might be agreement or disgruntlement -- could be just as easily either way. He covers Aleksander over each of the bodies, looking somewhat disappointed that they're all dead-dead, and he doesn't win his three smokes. <<You know what they say about curiosity, Davy,>> he says, but the flick of his fingers, as well as the way he settles in a few paces back behind the other Tauran suggests he's interested in looking, too.

Half of being a sniper watching over your squad is testing yourself. Davion is at six-mark-eight, Tomak at six-mark-four. Slide the rifle thataway and find Akeso at... Charlie doesn't have her notebook out, but all the calculations are being done in her head. She accounts for wind, for angle. What would be required to take each one of them out. Surely they know it's being done. Right? All while she plays eye on the ridge? The Piconese woman hums softly to herself as she rests there, shivering in her cold weather gear. At the very least, it takes her mind off how she's so cold her nipples could cut glass.

Once Abigail makes it to the sniper cylon, she takes a knee, reaching out to inspect the thing. Once she sees Erin walk over? She reaches into her vest to pull out a multitool to offer to the recon panda to start taking off the bits and pieces that she wants. Because sometimes...you just know. She's happy to remain and inspect until they get the all clear to return to patrol.

"Oh, Walker." Erin grins widely at the engineer, as she shoulders her rifle. "I've got my own set." And then, whoosh, there it is: this hand-made monstrosity of a multi-tool that looks more like something you'd use to shear wool and slaughter lambs than skillfully take pieces off of a delicate, art-ful piece of engineering like a Cylon. With a grin on her face, she begins the process of scavenging like a damned Scrounger.

The gloves have to come off for this bit, so Akeso works fast, her rapidly freezing fingers freakishly strong when she applies pressure and then adhesive bandages to Mercer's injuries. She's not much for bedside manner and small talk, but keeps him mostly informed of the score as she patches him up. As she's breaking out the last bandage, she looks over at Geoff and sniffs, as if somehow she can smell blood, even if she can't see it. "How are you, Gigi? Need any work done too?" She quietly asks, then on goes the patch and she gives the Gunny a pat on the shoulder indicating he's good to go.

Looking over his shoulder when the other Tauran speaks of curiosity, Aleksander grins and says in response, <<What? Curiosity gets you a Leonese Princess?>> It certainly doesn't discourage Davion from going up to the fallen Cylon sniper just to take a look at it. He actually takes a knee to study the pieces up close, the headless corpse doesn't leave much but he wanted to see if the design of this particular toaster was different, and not just the camoflauge that it had to blend in with the snow.

Geoff looks down again and shrugs. "If it broke the skin at all it's like a band-aid thing. I'll get it checked out at base," he says, nodding a little at Akeso. "Do more harm to take any of this crap off in the cold."

<<If that were the case you'd have a whole castle full of 'em by now,>> comes Gage's amused response to Aleksander. It doesn't mean he isn't interested in the sniper though -- but there's nothing special about it to draw attention, especially after Erin's been-and-gone with all the exciting parts of it.

Luckily for Aleksander, he wasn't interested in grabbing scraps for himself, wanting more on a looksee on what it looked like for future notice. "Hayes, you want any help with those parts?" The Tauran actually volunteers some assistance, since the sniper corpse has already been picked over by the Trash Panda. "Wish the damned Cylons would make things easy, instead of painting themselves to blend in with the surroundings, have flashing lights and such on them." For now, Davion stays where he is, even if it's just provided Erin with some cover in case the off chance another Cylon patrol approaches.

"C'est beau. But, if you begin feeling light headed, develop blurred vision or your feet start sloshing around in your boots because they're full of blood, let me know." Akeso replies with a narrow eyed look at Geoff. She'll be watching him on the hike home, no doubt about it. At least she half softens the look with a trace of a smile as she repacks her bag and closes it up.

Mercer submits quietly to Akeso's tending, though he still keeps a wary eye on the squad. When she's finished, he offers a brisk nod of thanks. "Let's wrap this up and move on out. Still got some woods to patrol." Since their squad isn't that injured, he's not calling a halt to the patrol just yet.

Gage settles in, a little further from the others at the sniper cylon's position, though he's kind of side-eyeing Erin as she pulls apart the cylon. "Ought to bring a chainsaw along with next time, Hayes," is his oh-so-helpful opinion, keeping his rifle and most -- not all -- of his attention pointed to their surroundings.

For her part, Abigail does not take much, leaving most of that to Erin, though she still keep her tools at the ready. If nothing else, having a chance to watch the panda in her element is a welcome distraction from the cold. But even so, all good things must past, and eventually, she's rising to her feet to rejoin the team.
