The mission that was set up a simple supply transfer mission. With the cutter being set up to break away from the fleet, supplies are being moved from Galactica to the smaller ship to prepare for the increased compliment as the volunteers list has grown. Up in one of the Vipers on escort of the Raptor that just finished delivering supplies, they're on the stretch between the two ships where there's little cover, the fleet spread out to prevent them from being fired upon easily.
<<Twinkletoes to Flight..>> Kazimir tags his radio to raise the others on the flight. <<Who all here is planning on taking on the transfer? Figured with Galactica taking off, I could do better with the break away group and their missions. Not that I want anyone's opinion's colored.>>
Life's been a lot of 'going through the motions' for one Antonie Niemec. She made it off of Canceron and back to the Galactica. But others didn't. And it'd left her in a sort of fugue state since. She just works on autopilot. Even to Kazimir, there's an initially a "Copy." But then the actual words sort of come through- "I hadn't decided yet." Even today, she didn't even pay attention to who she was on the assignment with; just worked with the deck crew to get her Raptor loaded up and shipped out.
Cherry's dulcet tones..or rather, her straight out of the mines, country Hibernian accent, a sharp contrast to Kazimir's Virgon one, follows along in answer to the question, and Niemec's answer, "If the option is that or head back to the Navy, I am completely and utterly there." She moves in to bracket Niemec's raptor, moving in a bit close to the Tauron pilot's airspace. "Squeak, did you see that cylon heavy I brought back for you?" Of course, Eva has no idea what happened to it, but it's the thought that counts, damnit! She came back to Galactica bearing gifts!
Sitting in the 'back seat' of the Raptor with Neimec, Paige isn't overly concerned about the pilot's lack of general chattiness. Frankly, she's not much given to it, herself. It saves a lot of arguments, she's found. <<It looks like a ride,>> she says casually into her mic, upperclass Caprican accent unmistakeable. <<I haven't actively signed up for anything, yet, however,>> she notes. Her fingers dance over her boards as she makes a scan of the region and the course they're taking. <<Route looks clear. For the moment, at least.>>
<<I'm still waiting on the story on exactly how you got that Raider up here, Cherry.>> comes the response from Kazimir as he moves above the Raptor to keep watch on the skies as they pass over the curve of the planet and for a moment, the small flight is in that small window of radio darkness where they can't contact either of the ships in the fleet as he chuckles softly. <<Well, I know for one, I'd miss your griping insights if you didn't come along for the ride, Squeak.>>
Their schedules have been different, likely. Perhaps Niemec's been off on some other assignment or Eva's still been going through all the post-rescue stuff. It's the first time, however, that Squeak has properly heard Cherry over the comms. Poor Paige- the Raptor shudders briefly as her hands slip at the controls. She recovers herself fairly quickly. "I heard." There's an uneasiness to her voice. A bit of 'This? When I'm stuck in here?!' "But I haven't seen it." She does glance over her shoulder to her backseater. "Copy that." There is a slight snort at Kazimir's input, but she doesn't flip the radio for that. "I'll take that under advisement," she adds after a moment.
Cherry's voice is not quite as chipper as usual, but she hasn't lost all of her humour, "I brought along a farm boy. You wouldn't believe how handy they are. I'll sit you down and walk you through what we did once we're back to normal duty rotations." Eva's chuckle, as she catches the wobble of the raptor is the only response she gives, and she'll probably pay for that later, "I haven't seen it either. They air-locked us out, rather than bring the thing on board. Was a bit iffy at the outset, flying into space with no helmets."
Paige reaches out with her hands instinctively to steady herself at the wobble. She glances back to her pilot. "You ok?" she asks, concerned as much for the woman as the bird. Her attention returns to her screen almost immediately, however, as two blips light up the DRADIS. <<Heads up. Two bogies,>> she reports to the flight group, now. <<Incoming from the surface.>>
Paige sings out with the attack, and Kazimir brings up his own DRADIS. <<Copy that, Princess. I see two.. make that three targets.>> She missed one somehow as he wing waggles towards Eva. "Let's cut them off and keep them from getting after out bus.>> he calls out as one Raider drops out from behind the shadow of another, advancing upon the small unit.
"Yes." Niemec's response to Paige is a bit terse, but she's recovered enough that the craft is stable once again. Mention, however, of targets on DRADIS does get the woman into more of a focus. "Copy that. Flight, Cherry. Moving into formation." Which largely means putting the Raptor to where the Vipers can protect it and the supplies it carries. She leaves Paige the KEW while getting the missiles warmed up and ready- should it come to that.
Cherry knows how this dance goes. She's been on Neimec's card enough to be able to anticipate the raptor stick's movements, and she draws ahead, to meet the cylons incoming on their target. "I'm on it."
"Tracking," Paige says tersely, watching the blips move on the DRADIS. "Looks like we've got 2 heading straight for us." That's not necessarily a surprise, given they're the ones carrying the goodies. Her focus sharpens and she poises over her controls, waiting for the opportune moment to fire on whichever gets too close first.
As per usual, Niemec doesn't actually need the assist from the viper pilots, and Eva banks hard, after taking a shot at one of the incoming cylons, to avoid the explosion of debri as neimec's missle takes out one of the enemy contacts, "It's like I never left. I'm just the plus one again."
"It'd be a help if you sing out your targets.." Kazimir frowns a little as he ends up firing into the debris that Niemec just created out of one of the raiders as it collapses itn on itself. The other two raiders engage, but it seems they aren't doing so well as they try to vector back in, as Kazimir breaks contact to go find a new target.
There's a bit of a snort from Niemec at Eva's words, but the woman is checking the DRADIS as she does. "Except I've only got three of these babies left." She glances back, but deems both cargo and ECO alright and opts instead to just stick to some evasive maneuvers. Just in case more friends opt to join the raiders that have decided to hassle them.
<<Hey,>> Paige replies to Kaz, <<I only fire when you lot let them get too close.>> Her tone is serious. It's a shame no one here really knows her well enough to detect the subtle hint of dry humour beneath the words. <<If that things comes around again, I'm firing again.>> And hoping not to miss, this time. However, as long as the toasters continue to miss, she won't complain.
Between the kews from Eva's viper and Paige's guns, the two make quick work of the second of the three cylons, Eva banking away to come around to take a shot at the las of the immediate threat.
<<Two down, one to go!>> Kazimir sings out as he brings the Viper around, staying on the chase of the final Raider to continue to discourage it from going after the Raptor as his KEW chews several rounds into it and gives a little distance when he sees Eva swooping in as well.
While her hands remain near the controls for the missiles, Niemec doesn't lock anything in. Instead, she keeps an eye on DRADIS and continues evasive maneuvers.
Paige fires her KEW, satisfied as moments later it explodes -- thanks to the efforts of the hotshots in the viper seats, naturally. Doesn't matter. It's gone. That's all she cares. As one of the raiders circles back around towards the Raptor, her hands hover over her controls again, in case the vipers aren't able to stop it in time. She leaves the flying to Niemec, trusting the terse Tauron to keep them out of the debris field and away from incoming fire. She says nothing more over coms, though, letting the viper jocks handle the heavy lifting, her own hands poised at the ready.
As the last Raider is chewed up in a volley of fire from all three ships, the voice of Galactica's air comes on line, checking on the status of the flight, as Kazimir triggers his radio. <<We met three enemy. Splashed same. RTB.>> he offers as he gives a wing-waggle towards Eva as he moves to link back up with the Raptor to continue their escort.
Eva, together with the rest of the small flight manage to take care of the of the enemy ships, and with the call to RTB, she moves to fall into drogue, behind the raptor.
"Copy that." Niemec makes a last pass over the DRADIS before falling back into formation. Time to hope for a quiet rest of the mission.
No arguments from the backseat. Paige leans back, now, a small, wry smile on her lips, and returns her attention to scanning. Just in case. Why are milk runs never milk runs?
