It's been a long day of exercises. PT. Obstacle course drills. Firing range. All done with mixed squads of Caprican and CF marines learning to work together. Well, that was the idea anyway. It's debateable how well it worked out vs how much posturing and one-upsmanship was going on. Now it's time for the final exercise of the day - a 'capture the flag' type exercise with laser tag weapons in a forested area just outside the base's perimeter. Some kind of natural park. The Caprican and CF marines are gathered, and Gunny Mercer starts dividing up the teams. "Davion, Dorn, Daly, Wagner, Rooper - you're on red team. Rhodes, Tomak, Anderson, Arda, Lindus - you're on blue." The Caprican staff sergeant in charge of their team goes through a similar exercise to divide up their squad, and then the two teams shuffle to their respective sides. Mercer hands out armbands to each team member to mark them as red or blue, then gives the flags to Chance and Lyn. "All right, head back to your zones and wait for the signal."
Each team has been assigned a defensive area in the forest where they have to keep their flag, and they've all been shown both areas to make it fair. Blue team's defense zone is a playground. Red team's is a picnic area. The two zones are separated by a football field or so of forest that they can maneuver around in.

Lyn takes the blue team's flag and she heads towards their zone as she tightens up her armband. Playground, eh? "Well, this is going to be interesting. Suggestions? Top of the slide maybe?" Since that will be visible, but hard to get up to, and harder to get down from if they place their people right.

Gray thinks for a moment, glancing around. "Maybe stick it in one of the swings' chains?" They can't /hide/ it, but that doesn't mean it has to be easy to grab... "Right up at the top, perhaps?"

There was definitely posturing on Gage's part, taking every available opportunity to upstage the Caprican forces where possible. Of course, the fact that they were trying to work together probably isn't drilled into the Tauron engineer quite as well as intended. Checking his 'gun', the marine now follows Lyn and the rest of the team. "If there's enough cover nearby," he answers Lyn. "Figure, maybe you, Lindus are the best for sneaking over and trying to get their flag, rest of us protect ours?" After a moment's consideration, he nods in agreement with Gray. "Good idea."

Taking the red teams flag, Chance Daly glances around to his team and motions for them to follow him over to the picnic area. "Alright boys and girls..." he begins, "Anyone here played Pyramid before? And not on a school yard? If so, thinkin your on offense. Best shooters on defense to guard the flag." A beat pause, "Thoughts? Where are we gonna put the flag?"

Lyn nods at Gray. "That's a good idea. Which one of you is part squirrel and can shimmy up there to set the flag?" she asks, looking between Gage and Gray because she sure as heck isn't gonna.

"Played a few times, but nowhere near what I was before." Beckham admits with a small snort, and then glances at the flag and the sniper. "Say we put the flag next to the sniper, and let her protect it in the forest. Make them come looking for it."

Capture the flag. Well then. Charlie tucks her arm band around her gear rather than fussing with it over-much. She spends more of her time going over the laser-rifle than anything else. As they angle off into the picnic area, she plunks herself down on the edge of a table to continue fussing with the weapon. Likely to figure out if she can modify it at all prior to things beginning. "Put the flag under the table," she says finally, before casting a look to Beckham. There's a shake of her head. "Forest's no man's land and gives them a head start back to their territory if they do get it. Under the table. They have to drop their weapon to crawl under to pick it up. Makes 'em prone. But-" she gestures to Chance. "You're the boss."

Logan takes up an armband and rallies with the rest of his temporary squad. He shrugs, "Sure, or one of us can hide out on defense. One thing's for sure. I expect Spectre will be somewhere unexpected to pop anyone whose head is out of cover too long. So you know... keep an eye out on high, or underneath you..." He surveys their playground and the forest.

Cate is known to climb for fun, but she doesn't volunteer for Lyn's plan. She looks pretty beat, and those who pay attention to the comings and goings of BOQ life might attribute it to having rolled back into their temporary accommodations just before muster this morning. She nods to Logan.

Donny straddles his training rifle in his arms, stepping over to quietly gather with the rest of his team at the picnic area. "Pssh, why can't -we- get the swing set?" he murmurs before he looks around to the rest of his teammates. When Daly brings up Pyramid, he looks over with a shake of his head. "Nope, but I kinda wish I had now.". Charlie's proposal earns a glance, "Wouldn't putting it under the table count as trying to hide it, tho'?" he asks, for confirmation. "I think should put it somewhere inbetween two points of cover, so we can catch them in a crossfire." In the end, he simply ends up staring at Chance expectantly.

Gray glances Gage over, taking his measure. "I can do it if you need Gage somewhere else. Otherwise I'm on it...just tell me where you need me." Surprisingly, he's not posturing...at least, as much as he can avoid doing so.

The mixed squads of PT was not a pleasant experience for Aleksander but at least he was on duty, he kept it to himself, keeping on a neutral expression for the most part. The drills were nothing special to him, the Foreign Legion running similar sessions back on Leonis. The Tauron was definitely part of the one-upmanship camp than the cooperation camp, but within limits, probably still staying on the down-low after that bar fight with the natives. Receiving the red armband, Aleksander slips it on before heading to the zone where the others in his squad are, the Capricans given a glance. "If they can't spot the flag under the table, then their scouts are failing at their jobs. It's not like we're burying it."

Gage grimaces at Lyn for a moment, before chuckling when Gray offers himself. "All right. Good point, Lindus. How about this. Lindus, Rhodes, Anderson on defence. Arda and me on offense?" He rolls his shoulder, and pats the rifle. "If you manage to take out a couple of their offence, one of you can come on up and help us try and capture their flag?"

There's a tap of her nose to Aleksander's words and Charlie nods. "I'm not saying hide it in the grass. Just set it under the table. If you're standing far enough back, you can see a brightly colored flag under a table. It's a training exercise. It's on them if they can't spot it. We're making it difficult to get to, not to see."

"Under the table doesn't sound like hiding to me. Just smart placement." Chance states flatly, glancing at Charlie with a quick smirk. "Alright, Charlie, you are on D. Second best shot, cross fire on D as well." A beat pause as he glances around, "Who scored second best in marksmanship?"

Lyn passes the flag to Gray and nods before she elbows Logan. "Come on twinkle toes, we're the sneaky sorts. We'll be the ones to try and get to the other side." She looks to Cate. "Make sure they don't smoke and give their positions away, eh?" She knows the trouble twins over there smoke like chimneys.

Aleksander remains silent about how well he did on the marksmanship, since he didn't participate in getting the CF badges, more than content with the ones he scored with the Foreign Legions. It's just noted he has the basic badges for marksmanship on all weapons. He is also trying to remain inconspicious so he doesn't get stuck with the duty.

"Not it." Beckham says dryly. "I'll go out, probably be the first out as well." he offers as he reaches to stretch his back for a moment. "Question is, will they see the sniper beneath the flag ready to open fire." there's a smirk at that.

"I'll do my best," Cate deadpans back to Lyn. She moves into a position behind a clump of brush to take up a position where she can see their flag but also cover the left flank.

Donny nods a bit, looking between Aleksander and Charlie as they speak. "Mm'. Right-o." he says, looking around for a moment. "Guess it's better than just lying it elsewhere." he adds before he looks back to Chance at the mention of scorings. "I only transfered over a while ago, so definitely not me." he says before he looks over to Beckham as he volunteers to go on the offensive. "I think I'll perform the same on either offense or defence. Just send me where you want me, boss." he says, with a glance over to Chance.

<FS3> Gray rolls Athletics: Success (8 5 4 3 2 2 1)

Lyn looks over the Capricans. "You willing to run a distraction. Look like you're really trying, but make just enough noise to get them to shoot at you, so we can mark their locations?"

Gray nods in response to Gage's suggestion. "That works for me." With that, he's now trying to glance around the playground for concealment/cover as he steps aside to tangle the stick the flag is on in the chain of one of the swings. This, he quickly decides, requires a hand... "Could someone give me a boost?" he asks as he realizes that shimmying up the swingset isn't going to be the easiest thing in the world, and with a gesture he gets one of the Capricans to step over and help boost him up. Once on top, he sets about sticking the flag into the chains of one of the swings...and then flipping the swing in question into a bit of a tangle...while doing his best to make sure that the flag itself is not obscured in any way.

Score? Letter of the Law: 1; Spirit of the Rules:0

There's a snort for Beckham and Charlie finally gives up on any especial modifications to the toy gun. Well, toy insofar as training rifles get. "I won't be right on top of it. That's what we have these lads for-" a glance to the Capricans, "I hope. Or some of you. Stand about, look tough. All that fun." She rolls to her feet and starts her way towards one of the other picnic tables. "Have fun storming the castle, boys." She'll be settling in a much further table, intending on the assault and bright flag to keep the attention off of her.

Logan grins at Lyn, "Follow you anywhere." He suggests playfully as he shrugs and adjusts his gear shifting as he surveys the group, "A distraction would not be a bad thing." He admits and then rolls his shoulders thoughtfully.

Daniels, one of the Caprican sergeants, grins at Lyn. "Sure. Though why don't we take the big guy there -" A gesture at Lindus. "Bet we could roll right through their line."

"Alright, you two..." Chance says to the two Capricans, "On defense. Donny, Beckham, Aleksander, offense. I'll stay on D with the sniper." Because while chance is huge and muscled, he's not exactly the fastest runner. "Rest of the Capricans, on offense."

Rules are made to be broken! Gage grunts in approval of Gray's flag-planting, then chuckles at Lyn's suggestion the Capricans run distraction. "They ought to be good at that, eh?" It's probably not a team-building comment, but hey. It's Gage. Still, the suggestion from the Caprican earns a grudging hint of respect. "Play it like Pyramid?" He grins at Lindus. Who better to do that? "I'll stay on defence, then."

"Believe it or not, big guy is recon," Lyn tells the Caprican sergeant. Then waits for him to pick up his jaw.

Daniels snorts disbelievingly. "Yeah right. You want someone sneaky - take Norcross." He gestures to one of the other Capricans, a small quiet guy who's been hanging around in the background.

When Aleksandr gets tapped to be on offense, he just gets ready to move out with the group that is ready to head out towards the opponent's base.

Giving a sharp nod, Beckham takes up his rifle, but it seems like he's not even in the game, really, just waiting on the go word to deploy.

Since the doc's got the left flank, Gage retreats towards the cover of a tree's trunk to watch the right flank, settling in to wait it out. Ahh, the life of a marine.

Donny nods when he gets his orders from Chance, pulling up his laser rifle into a more battle ready position at his chest as he heads over to gather and move with the rest of red team's offense. He too doesn't say anything, just quietly waiting on the order to go.

"All right then, let's get it done," Lyn gestures Norcross to the sneaky team. "Tomak! Anderson! Don't give away your position with the cancer sticks, all right?" She waits for the signal to begin.

Getting down from stashing the flag, Gray also seeks out some concealment in some heavy bushes next to the playground. It's not the easiest place to get /out/ of once the action starts, but he has decent cover on the flag. "Copy that. I'll chew for now instead!" he responds, grinning and getting ready to...wait.

With an amused grunt, Gage says, "Davy aint here for me to grab one, so we're good. Though you might catch the glow of his on the other side of the field."

Logan picks his way quickly through the forests ensuring that Tomkins and Daniels stay with him, "Alright boys. Good thing is, we have some Intel. We have a pain in the ass sniper against us. The rest of them are fine. But, solid chance that if you stay in one spot she's going to be behind you and aiming at your head. So... leave the sneaking for others. We just keep moving, get to the picnic area, locate the flag, wreak havoc, don't stop moving till I tell you to." He says rolling his shoulders. He sets a quick pace, Logan trades cover for speed as they cross through the trees heading for the picnic area.

Lyn moves her careful way through the trees, pausing and stopping behind each bit of cover she can to look and listen for any signs of the red team, and keeping an ear out for the progress of Logan and Daniels.

And once the meeting is over (or at least her part of it), Charlie finds a picnic table well and away from the one the flag will be planted under and settles herself in. Beneath as well, but she settles in to where the grass is being used to screen her somewhat. In tac gear (and no bright colors), she'll be easier to miss. Perhaps it's a touch cheat-y to tuck her armband away, but well. She's recon. Cheating is part of their skillset. The rifle is checked over once more as she waits and watches, keeping an eye out for anyone trying to be sneaky... that's her job.

Chance isn't the hiding sort. He isn't the sneaking sort. He's the stand out in the open and draw fire sort. Of course, that tactic works better when he can take cover, which he is currently doing behind a picnic table. He's crouched down, having checked his rifle over once to make sure he knows how this laser gun works. He has his red team arm band on and keeps an eye out over the table for the oncoming assault.

Norcross sneaks along, a bit spaced out from Lyn but well in cover. Daniels and Tompkins are doing the opposite of sneaking - taking up cover behind some trees and taking aim at the defenders.

<FS3> Logan rolls Athletics: Success (8 7 5 4 4 4 4 4 2 1)

Lyn thinks she's hidden, but what she thinks and what the actual situation is, are two different things as her vest bloops at her to indicate she's been KO'd. She stands and raises her hands to trudge to the sideline.

<FS3> Gray rolls Alertness: Good Success (7 6 6 5 4 4 3 1)

<FS3> Chance rolls Alertness: Success (8 8 5 4 3 2 2)

Traditional doctrine would indicate that one should descend beneath obstruction to retrieve a flag. But then again someone let Recon play, rather than dropping below the picnic table where he might have to lower his rifle. Logan drops down to one knee lifts a hand against the picnic table and shoves it forward flipping it towards the incoming fire. Logan leans up against table for fire as he reaches down and picks up the flag. He takes a shot in the general direction of the sniper fire as he gauges the distance between himself and the forest cover.

When the first rush comes in, Chance moves to a standing position and fires off a shot at Logan as he moves in. It's a quick shot and while it misses, he sees at least two members of the Blue team go down, "Good work red team!" he bellows and falls back behind the picnic table for cover. "Converge fire on my target, Sandy, you're with me!"

Ah-ha, there they are. Not a bad tactic. Send in the big guys as a distraction and a smaller recon unit. It's how Charlie would have done it... were she not on defense. The woman lines up her shot and boom. It's a single, solid hit. There's no remorse. It's a training exercise. She's gone against her own plenty of times in similar mock combat. She just shifts slightly to try to make herself less of a target; they'll have a bead on her now and there's no time to re-position. Instead, she just adjusts her line of sight for the Caprican that was with Lyn, trying to take him out before he can get to the flag.

Charlie attacks Norcross with Rifle+Ap and HITS! Impaired wound to Abdomen.

And Norcross thought he was being so sneaky as well, edging his way towards the flank of the defensive perimeter. And then his vests starts beeping at him to signal he's out and he curses. "Frak." He gets up and follows Lyn to the sideline.

<FS3> Logan rolls Athletics: Good Success (8 8 7 5 5 4 4 4 3 1)

"Don't feel bad. Wagner has the eyes of a frakking eagle. That's why we're glad she's on our side in the war," Lyn quips to Norcross.

Logan's potshot in Charlie's direction is apparently not nearly distracting enough. Still Logan turns and holding the flag he takes a half step out and Logan draws the flag back and hurls it in the direction of Tomkins. Unfortunately while Logan might be an excellent Pyramid player... a flag... is not ACTUALLY a Pyramid ball. The flag makes it a good distance towards Tomkins. Which...is not actually all the distance needed. Logan lets out a curse and shouts, "TOMMY YOU BETTER NOT LET HER SHOOT ME!" After the demand Logan is sprinting out from the safety of his cover and towards the flag to retrieve the object that's only half the way back to the safety of the treeline.

<FS3> Chance rolls Athletics: Success (7 6 5 5 3 3 2 1 1)

<FS3> Logan rolls Athletics: Great Success (8 7 7 7 6 6 5 5 3 2)

Tompkins blinks as Logan throws the flag - that was not what he was expecting. But he shifts his fire to cover Logan when he yells about it.

Seeing Logan grab the flag and then throw it, Chance grunts and rolls over his picnic table and then starts running after Logan. "Everyone shoot him! He's got the flag!" Chance is big, and he isn't nearly as fast as Logan. But he's doing the chasing, so he tries to line up a shot on the run.

"Frakking snipers," Norcross says with a smirk to Lyn.

After taking care of Norcross, Charlie realizes that Logan has made it across the line. "Frak." Why didn't anyone tackle him?! Probably sheer size and this is supposed to be, you know, friendly and no broken bones. Rolling a bit to her side to try to line up a shot, she lets out a breath and draws up her rifle, tracking the ex-Pyramid player's supposed path towards the treeline.

Lyn claps for Logan's effort. "Nice moves, Lindus! You still have it, big guy!"

"Aw, frak... that's it," mumbles Daniels when he sees the last of their team go down. He chuckles at Logan. "I guess you do move pretty well for a mountain."

Logan is running... and running...and running. There's this beeping. Logan keeps running. The beeping continues... He taps his helmet a couple times. And then he begins to slow. "Well... Frak. Spectre you SUCK." He shotus upwards to the sky and grumbles as he heads to the sideline. He nods to Daniels, "Thanks. Bloody snipers though. Glass cannons, the lot of them." He mutters scowling, "Next time we have snipers we need to make sure we bring explosives. Lots of explosives. Best way to deal with them." He declares.

The shot is fired. Logan's a nice big target, even running. The lights on his helmet and the report on her weapon say she's got a solid hit, but what's that other? "Frak me," Charlie mumbles as she gets to her feet, but- it does let her break out laughing at Lindus' cursing of her name. So she just thrusts her arms into the sky, letting out of a WHOOP of victory. "TAKE THAT!" But she does, as she heads towards the sideline, point to the dropped flag. "Protect our baby, team red!" Time for her to kick back and enjoy the rest of the show. And hope their offensive doesn't let them down.

"Somehow I think the Gunny would be pissed if we started blowing up the park," Tompkins reasons.

"Agreed," Lyn chimes to Tompkins reasoning.

Chance may not have been able to outrun Logan. And the shot he fires off is wild, but he at least he manages to get to the flag quickly when Logan and Tompkins both go down. Sure, he didn't hit anyone, but he had a winning strategy! "Great job, Red!" He slows up and snatches up the flag from the ground and moves back to the picnic table to put it back underneath it.

Logan claps Tompkins overhard on the shoulder, "Damn, nice shooting. Little faster next time though." He says as Charlie has to come out. He shrugs, "Pissed, sure, but I'm sure it could be viewed as acceptable counter-sniper tactics." He assures Tompkins. He surveys the area and nods solemnly having only minorly damaged the area with an upturned picnic table. He then takes the time to consider Chance and then offers to Lyn indicating Chance, "Huh, I didn't know there was someone bigger than me. That's useful."

Once off to the sidelines, Charlie sits down heavily and drops the laser rifle across her lap. She reaches into a pocket in her gear, pulling out a protein bar. She unwraps it, leaning to try to get any possible view to the other side of the 'range.' "Be nice if we knew how things were going for the other side."

Lyn chuckles. "Oh yeah, Daly is huge. Nice guy though, kinda like you, Lindus. Ginormous teddy bear that you are." She grins.

Chance sits on the picnic table, over where the flag is. He still has his rifle ready. In theory, the other teams D might take out his team and come for another wave. "Buzz, Sandy, take up spots behind those other tables. Buzz, you take where Charlie was." A beat pause, and he glances over at the sideline, brow arched at Logan and Lyn, then he looks back out over the field.

Logan sniffs at Lyn, "Hey now. Let's not say things we can't take back. You'll ruin my reputation. I'm a rabble-rousing hellion ex-pyramid playing diva. Also, playboy, don't forget playboy." He informs Lyn brightly.
