Emrys Montjoy was born to wealthy parents on Virgon, the only child of a minor noble family. Nothing impressive or noteworthy among the Virgon aristocracy, but enough to secure him an excellent upbringing and unlimited opportunities. Of course, unlimited really meant 'You can do anything you like, but you may only choose X, Y, or Z'. Fortunately, at first, obedience to his parents' wishes was easy.
Family tradition mandated a term of service in the Virgon Royal Navy, and Emrys wanted to fly as soon as he was old enough to understand the concept. When he was old enough, his parents put him in private lessons. From the very first, it was clear he was gifted when it came to anything that flew. Flying was everything he had always dreamed it would be, and more.
When the time came, family connections and his own abilities secured Emrys an appointment to the Royal Navy Academy. While there he studied history and mathematics and continued to hone his piloting skills. After the Academy he was sent down the pilot pipeline, beginning with raptors as all pilots do and then moving on to vipers. His natural talents continued to blossom at every step along the way.
A year or two into his career, his parents let him know they had found a suitable young lady for him to marry.. Emrys was horrified, wanting no part of it. He was quite enjoying being single, to the point that his extracurricular activities had earned him the callsign 'Hussy'. For the first time in his life, Emrys said no to his parents. And then, just to make the point extremely clear, he volunteered for an ICJPK tour and was sent elsewhere in the Colonies.
Emrys loved his tour with the ICJPK, and it exposed to him to pilot cultures beyond the staid traditional ways of the Royal Navy. When he returned from that tour, the young pilot had picked up some bad habits and a love of pushing himself and his viper to the limit. He quickly found himself renamed 'Dice' for his reckless flying and dicey maneuvers.
Everyone grows up, however, and by the time he made Captain Emrys had settled down quite a bit in the piloting department. A near miss gave him some serious perspective, and some good advice and mentoring from senior officers helped him implement it. The new Captain found himself sent back to flight school as an instructor, the Navy having decided to put his incredible talent to good use by making him teach.
At first, Emrys enjoyed being a teacher. He was actually quite good at it, and the Navy provided plenty of training. It also gave him the opportunity to hone his flying and gunnery skills even further. He earned himself a reputation as an extremely demanding instructor. For a third time, he was renamed. It was felt it was not fitting for an instructor to have a callsign associated with recklessness, and it no longer suited him. He now found himself flying under Hawk, for the sharpness of eye with which he watched his students for even the slightest mistake and his tendency to come down from above in simulated combat like a hawk with a rabbit if they got careless.
Over time, however, he realized it was putting him behind the curve of his peers in terms of opportunities to command. When it became clear this was going to be a long term billet, bitterness began to set in. Once again, Emrys put in for an ICJPK tour. This time, it was denied. His CO had no intention of sending one of his top instructors to go play errand boy for another colony, as he put it. Some years later when it became clear that instructor was probably his job for the rest of his career and he could no longer stand the boredom, Emrys left the Navy.
His civilian years were spent flying for private corporations. It didn't have the thrill of the viper, but at least he was really flying something besides training scenarios. and there was plenty of variety in the work and new airframes to be experienced. When the cylons attacked and war came Emrys, now in his early forties, felt obligated to rejoin the Navy even if it meant a return to training new pilots. This was not the case, however, as he was sent first to a combat unit and then to the newly formed Colonial Forces. In turn, the CF assigned him to the Timber Wolves.
Emrys stands a little under six foot, with an athletic build. Black hair is clipped short around the neck, ears, and low part of his head then worn longer and slicked back on top.His eyes are dark brown and his skin pale.
Emrys is currently wearing the Naval duty uniform of the day, with with the rank of Captain and a pilot's badge.
