For most of his childhood, Silvas was the lowest of the low. On a planet that still occasionally believes in the caste system, that wasn't a great thing. He never knew his father, which was to be expected, since his mother, that would rather of not had him, was of a profession that made knowing such things difficult. He grew up mostly running through the slums of Hades with the other poor kids and street trash, and it seemed he was eventually to be led into a life of crime. Instead, when his mother passed away of some disease or another, the priest that attended to the funeral took an interest in the young boy and adopted him. From then on his life took a turn for the better, he got an education, cleaned up his act (at least a little), and eventually, with the encouragement of his adoptive father, managed to get into Canceron's Naval Academy on a scholarship.
He hadn't intended the Navy to be a life-long career. It was a good place to start, get an education, perform some service, get a name for himself before getting out to affect real change in politics. Turning his life around had made him want to do something with it, to represent the lower classes and help to make the government see that the people down there were necessary, too. So he majored in Political Science in which he graduated with honors. As with anyone with an eye toward an eventual political career, he intended to polish his resume up as much as possible. What was another year of training and another year of service. He applied for flight school and was accepted. He showed a distinct talent in the ECO chair, even though he liked piloting the crafts, he was much more comfortable in the rear, taking care of the more technical aspects of the Raptor.
His first mission out of flight school was ferrying the ICJPK forces to the miner's revolt on his own home planet. He even spent a year as part of the ICJPK himself as part of the intervention in the Sagittaron civil war. Then everything went insane. The cylon uprising had all colonies scrambling. What he had hoped would be mostly quiet uneventful service until he could apply for discharge was now a full-blown war. He's spent most of the war defending Canceron, helping to ferry troops and fly air patrols in the few places on the planet where fighting was actually occurring, serving on one of the Canceron escorts in orbit around the planet. He was impressed with the aid the Colonial Forces provided after the fall of Edson Air Base, in which he lost quite a few Academy friends and classmates. As the fighting dragged on, he found himself more and more dissatisfied with what he felt was a safe secondary role in the war. So shortly after his promotion to lieutenant he requested to be part of the next group from Canceron sent to join the Colonial Forces, putting in a personal request to be joined with the forces that served on Canceron after the Edson incident. In short order his transfer was approved and he was assigned to the Timber Wolves.
Silvas is a athletically lean man in his mid twenties, standing just shy of the six foot mark. He has a distinctly olive complexion combined with shortish black hair barely kept in a regulation military haircut. Below thick, dark brows, his brown eyes nearly dark enough to be almost black as well. He usually has a bit of stubble or at least a five o'clock shadow across his jaw. He seems to simply be one of those men that no matter how recently he's shaved, his beard is at least somewhat noticeable. Other than his dog-tags, he wears another chain around his neck, some sort of religious medallion of what seems to be a version of Athena.

2237-10-24 - "Interesting" Squadmates
A freshly arrived Silvas gets a whirlwind introduction to some "interesting" squadmates, ranging from clearly semi-insane Pieter, to family-fond Irene, on to a somewhat withdrawn Astraea. At least things don't seem to be boring on this particular ship.
