Ashley Day has gone by her nickname for as long as she can remember: "Sunny." It's a name that fits for her, both in background and personality.
She hails from Aerilon, and grew up in a prosperous county a few dozen miles outside of Johnsville. Her parents -- Leslie and Jonathan -- owned an expansive soybean farm, on which they also raised some livestock and poultry. Like any good Aerilon family, Sunny had more than a few siblings; she was the third of six children, with two older brothers, a younger brother, and two younger sisters.
The Days were a farming family. Helping the family was more important than anything else, and the harvest was what kept food on the table. Still, Sunny was the brightest of them all, graduating from her high school (which was, in itself, an achievement) and going on to college in Johnsville. But college proved to be too much of a financial burden, so Sunny instead enlisted to get a paid-for education. After completing her training program, she served the Aerilon Militia as needed, heading to places like Corinth to help the sick and injured.
When the Uprising happened, like many Aerilonians, Sunny was pressed into service in war-torn areas soon after. Sunny saw action initially on Picon, where she spent nine months before being transferred to Caprica. She spent 6 months there before being sent to join the Colonial Forces. As a part of the CF, she was stationed briefly on Tauron before being sent back to Caprica again -- and then to the Timber Wolves to enhance its complement of specialized Marines.
Her service record is replete with commendations on her deportment and willingness to get into the fray. By reports, she is, for all intents and purposes, a good, steady Marine. She seems to have a way about her that commands some attention and respect, but, mostly, she's upbeat, chipper, and fairly empathetic. She is as her nickname suggests: a bright frakking ray of sunshine.
Kind of short and built as an athlete, this young woman has blue eyes and shoulder-length blonde hair that is usually kept back in a ponytail. She has the rounded, soft face of an Aerilonian farm girl, with a dusting of freckles. 5'4". Average build, squared shoulders. There's a relaxed air about her, and a ne'er-could-care note in her voice. She looks like someone who smiles often and genuinely.
She wears a Marine's uniform. On her left breast: "Day." Off-duty, her shirt is usually opened a little -- a few buttons at the top -- to reveal a tank top underneath; on-duty, it's fastened primly and properly.
